About Red Lantern Chinese Buffet

Red Lantern Chinese Buffet runs an all-you-can-eat operation on Auchenkilns Park in Cumbernauld, sitting just off the motorway between Glasgow and Stirling, Perth and Dundee. The buffet spans starters through to desserts, with mains served alongside a choice of boiled rice, egg fried rice, noodles or chips. Dessert draws on a chocolate fountain and a soft-serve ice cream machine, with cakes and fresh fruit on the same run, and draught soft drinks come refillable so tables can top up through the meal. Booking ahead is advised, and the team checks reservations on arrival, so weekends and larger parties are worth arranging in advance. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. The restaurant opens daily. It has its own car park, with easy access for disabled visitors.

Customer Review Summary

The dessert counter draws the most comment, with a chocolate fountain and marshmallows, unlimited soft serve, cakes, fresh fruit and bubble waffles all named by different diners. Close behind is the range of hot food: one reviewer singles out the lemon chicken as delicious, others point to sushi, mac and cheese, and mains taken with egg fried rice, noodles or chips, and several describe the cooking as genuinely tasty rather than the mediocre standard they associate with world buffets. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, several suggest booking in advance for weekends or larger parties, and one recommends the draught soft drinks for endless refills. A vegetarian diner found the choice poor, with ham in the omelette, cheese and chicken in the spring roll and prawns on the sweetcorn, calling it good value for meat eaters and expensive otherwise. Another describes waiting despite a booking, being asked three times by different staff whether they had booked, no ice, watery ice cream, and a cake fridge too high to reach.

“Absolutely lovely food. Not like your world buffet places with mediocre everything. Genuinely tasty chinese food cooked well and full of flavour with a great variety and plenty of choice for all”

“Best Chinese buffet for families. Cosy restaurant and lively atmosphere. So many delicious food to choose from and just a great stopover while traveling to England. Will definitely come again.”

“Our first time in the Red Lantern. It definitely won't be our last! A really great buffet with a massive choice, from starters right through to desserts. It's a really popular restaurant, so I'd advise you to book in advance! Here's a tip - if you're having soft drinks, take the draught option for endless refills! We will be back soon!”
  • Lorna Murray
“Beautiful and clean, well laid out. everything looked fresh.....however very meat laden which would suit a lot of people. The vegetarian option was poor. The omelette had ham, the spring roll had cheese and chicken, grilled sweetcorni had prawns...I had a slice of pizza, the mac cheese was delicious ....bread, boiled egg, potato salad and noodles. The usual good choice of puddings that you can get most places. My friend enjoyed everything and the place was really busy but if your vegetarian or vegan I wouldn't recommend. Good value for meat eaters expensive for vegetarians.”

“This is a great place to go if you want casual dining with good buffet food. The quality is great and there’s a great choice of you can get refillable soft drinks, there is also a bar if you want this. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. It can be busy depending on what day or time you go but it’s never unpleasantly so. Parking is great, there is a car park with easy access for disabled people. You can have your mains with boiled rice, egg fried rice, or noodles, or chips if you want. There are desserts too, including ice cream, lots of fresh fruit, so many cakes, a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, need I go on?I recommend the lemon chicken, it’s delicious.”
