Customer Review Summary

The negatives carry real weight. One party reports preordered coeliac meals were not available, there was no gluten-free beer, wine was warm and ice ran short, and two children waited while others ate. A 10% reduction on the children's burgers was offered, which they called an insult. Another couple describes two sirloin steaks ordered medium rare arriving tough, with a waitress advising against the duck and lamb too, leaving them with dry cheesy chips. A third reports being refused an outside table and food service by a rude member of staff.

“Appalling!! Pre booked preordered and paid prior only to find they didn’t have the celiac meals!!! No GF beer!! Service for food and bar was diabolical Thank you for your response.. However I would just like to clarify a few things!!! The meals were preordered a week in advance and these meals should be prioritised ensuring you can fulfill your obligations??. We were then asked to pick alternative meals in replacement!! Having preordered a week prior we felt this wasn’t acceptable and made this point clear it was only because of this the offer to buy some from a local convenience store was made!!! At this point the other meals shouldn’t have been prepared so all meals would be served together not have 2 children have to sit and watch their family eat!!! To host a birthday party where it has been made categorically clear several members are celiac the issue to be unable to supply drinks should have been made clear prior to arrival!!! The party host was there 1 hour early to set up and this wasn’t mentioned?? Not only this lack of ice, and warm wine made drink options extremely limited!!! The events of the evening unfolded in this manner due to lack of management!!!!! Once it was realised you were unable to fulfill the preorder meals somebody should’ve gone and got the rolls without hesitation and only inform the party if these were unattainable…. After staff had been fairly rude and abrupt during this hole ordeal upon payment and a polite request to not charge for the 2 kids burgers An offer was made to reduce the 2 burger costs by 10% total £4 ish which is only to be taken as more of an insult.. I’m just 1 of 15 people and you have clarified everyone was just as disappointed as each other”

“We had a kid free night and decided to go to the Pear. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, we have had good food here before but not this time!! This location has had the same story over the last 3 owners it starts off great and then goes down hill…and now it really is. We both ordered a sirloin steak and ordered it medium rare. It came just about medium but both of them were as tough as old boots. So we sent them back…then the waitress came back and told us “if you order your steak medium rare again then the new steaks will also be tough. You should order rare or blue” we said that was too under cooked for us and we would order something else. When they came back with the menu we were told “don’t order the duck or the Lamb as it will be cooked the same way and will be tough too” My wife had the crab cakes which she enjoyed, I order cheesy chips as the 3 things I fancied were going to be tough. The cheesy chips were dry with a bit of cheese, the chips were big and fat but not Crispy at the bottom there seemed to be smaller old chips which I did eat (I was hungry) but they were not great. The last time my wife went there one of her friends order the vegetarian curry. It was so small she was still hungry and she asked if she could have more. She was told no and they took 50% off the bill. She went home and had some toast to fill her up. I am just about to have some toast too. Just because it has a good star rating don’t accept poor food.”

“Had a fantastic meal at the Pear. The food was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. You can really tell they use quality ingredients, and every dish was finished to a high standard. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a lovely setting that makes it a great place to enjoy a meal with family or friends. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel well looked after throughout our visit. If you’re looking for great food, excellent service, and a beautiful pub in Dorset, I would highly recommend The Pear. We’ll definitely be back!”

“We went for a late Sunday lunch with another couple. We all had something off the Sunday roast menu. It was delicious & good quality. The service and environment was excellent. The only negative was that there could have been more vegetables. I bowl wasn't really enough for 4 people, hence the 4 star instead of 5.”

“The most awful management- very rude, uncomfortable atmosphere Such a shame because the grounds of this ‘pub’ is very pretty however I would never return to this establishment ever again. We tried booking a table 2 week’s prior to our arrival for a 50th Birthday however we were told we weren’t able to if we wanted to sit outside (we were making a day of it, the weather was shinning of course we wanted to sit outside, giving all the tables you have outside) when asked if we could order food, we were told by a rude lady it was not possible. We ended up going to the horns which was pretty much next door which was much better. I would never again come here and strongly advise others to AVOID”
