About Bittersweet Leith

Bittersweet Leith is a cocktail bar in Edinburgh at 24 Henderson St, run by two Neapolitan brothers. The drinks are built on the bar's own house-distilled spirits and aperitif, which are produced at a distillery five minutes away, so guests can taste the producer's work where it is poured. Cocktails combine a craft approach with a local Leith twist. The kitchen sends out Italian small plates designed to pair with those spirits and the aperitif, which makes a meal and a drink part of the same visit. The food draws on the flavours of Naples.

Customer Review Summary

The espresso martini is the drink reviewers raise most, described as velvety, creamy and frothy, with one saying it spoils every other version and another calling it reason enough to visit. Close behind are the inventive cocktails, including a Snoop Dogg Peaches and Cream and an MF Doom drink called Guinnesses, both inspired by rap lyrics, along with the house-distilled spirits and bitters. On the food side, diners single out the lasagna, the homemade pastas and a pistachio arancini that is crispy outside with a creamy, nutty centre, while the small plates are called flavorful. Staff come up repeatedly as warm, knowledgeable and passionate, with the owner present and drink recommendations described as on-point. One reviewer suggests trying something new rather than defaulting to a classic. Others mention a welcoming atmosphere and good value compared with other Leith venues. One bartender offered ideas for the rest of a Scotland trip, and another reviewer took a friend back the following day.

“As someone who loves good food great service owner presence great atmosphere and ambition… this place did it all. Two brothers from Italy came up with an outstanding concept. If I lived here I would have been a regular. Fabrizio and his brother Simo are definitely taking their partnership to a new level. The food the drinks the general feel of inclusion in this tiny establishment is exceptional. Our mixologist and servers Sam and Toby were welcoming and knowledgeable and warm. Pastas home made as are about everything else on the drink list and menu. It’s really just “one” of those places you need to experience. Go enjoy then go again.”

“Update still absolutely the best cocktail place in Leith This is the best cocktail bar we've been to in Edinburgh. It's pretty exceptional. Incentive versions of classics and also their own inventions. Exciting bitters and elixirs not to mention their own distilled spirits. It's science. It's fun. It's delicious. Most of all the owner and staff are phenomenal. This could easily be pretentious but it's just a joy!”
