About Windmills Cafe and Bakery

Inside Langney Shopping Centre, Windmills Cafe and Bakery pairs a bakery counter with a sit-down room in Eastbourne. Sandwiches, rolls and baguettes are made fresh to order, and the savoury side takes in sausage rolls, while Bath Buns sit among the cakes and bakes that make up much of the counter selection. Tea and coffee cover the hot drinks. There is no booking, so you order at the counter and take a table, and the team brings the food out and clears the tables afterwards. Those tables are kept for customers eating in, with the same food packed up for anyone taking it away to eat off site. A step-free entrance lets visitors with mobility needs come in without a step. The cafe runs daily through the daytime.

Customer Review Summary

Cakes anchor most of the praise here, described as freshly made, generously sized and reasonably priced, with one reviewer taking one home for lunch and another noting how good they always look. Close behind sit the coffee and tea, and several single out the wider bakery counter, sausage rolls kept stocked through the day, sandwiches, rolls and baguettes made to order and carried to the table, and one visitor returning specifically for Bath Buns. Staff come in for repeated warmth, described as friendly, fast and helpful with local information, and one review calls the place spotlessly clean. The complaints are pointed, though. Two reviewers report savouries arriving burnt, with sausage rolls and pasties called overcooked across repeat visits, and one long-standing customer says quality has slipped while prices rose, citing an iced bun with two sultanas and a chicken slice holding one small piece of chicken and no bechamel. Another describes a curt exchange over dine-in versus takeaway seating. On the other side, one reviewer recounts spilling tea and having staff rush over to replace it.

“I visited a cafe today and staff very rude. When I asked to sit at a table, the staff member said it was for dine-in customers only. I explained my child was already seated, but was told I'd chosen takeaway and couldn't stay. I offered to order more food to dine in, and eventually they agreed – still with a less-than-friendly attitude”

“Foods nice but WHY ARE ALL THE SAVOURIES ALWAY burnt. Up your game or at least learn when to take the food out the oven. Revisited again today giving them another go and yet again burnt food, sausage rolls and pasties all well over cooked. Been a customer over ten years but now I think it time to use greggs.”

“Stopped for tea and cake. Good sized cakes and hot drinks. Did spill tea and staff rushed over to help and replace tea. Will revisit for quality of goods and excellent customer service.”
