Quick info
About Cafe Aroma
Set in Motcombe village near Gildredge Park, Cafe Aroma is a small cafe on Ocklynge Rd in Eastbourne's old town, working at a size that keeps the cooking close to the counter. Food is made in house across both breakfast and lunch, with the full English breakfast a regular order and a specials board covering the midday choices. Drinks run to a wide range of teas and coffees. There is no booking, so seats go to walk-ins as they arrive, and the small room means the wait varies with who is already in. The kitchen runs during the daytime, Monday to Saturday, with the cafe closed on Tuesdays and Sundays, so a mid-week visit is worth planning around that gap.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often come for the wide range of coffees and teas, and several mention the full English breakfast, called superb and described as hot, well presented and plentiful. Lunch draws close behind, with the specials board, fish cakes and salmon sandwiches singled out as tasty, homemade food. Many describe the room as cosy, small and charming, with friendly service, and a few say the owners clearly love what they do. One reviewer found the coffee done old school style, and another felt the eggs on the full English were not quite to their liking. The most serious complaint is one reviewer's account of a dirty experience, citing grimy crockery, teaspoons, carpet and tea strainer, mould or damp on a wall under the front window, and very limited dairy free options with no dairy free milk. Against that, a reviewer who paid under a tenner for a coffee and full English found it great value, and others say they will be returning.

“Walking through Motcombe en route to Gildredge Park for a coffee break we came across Cafe Aroma which happened to be open. Very cosy cafe, lovely atmosphere and friendly service and just perfect for our coffee break. The specials board for lunches offered some very tasty meals so may have to pay a return visit!!”

“Felt very grimy/dirty (crockery, teaspoons, carpet, table, tea strainer, windowsills etc), there was mould/damp on the wall under the window at the front, and there was no dairy free milk alternative/very limited dairy free options at all. Will definitely not be returning and do not recommend at all.”

“This is one of the coziest little cafes I have ever been to. The menu choice is diverse, great for breakfast and lunch, and also has some really tasty Specials. And if you just want to drink tea or coffee, you will be pleasantly surprised with wide selection they have. This cafe is a perfect place to start a day or come in the middle of a relaxed weekend and have a cuppa. The owners truly love what they do, and we cannot be grateful enough for how enjoyable the service, food, and drinks were!”

“Thoroughly recommend here for a well cooked meal. Nice selection of vegetables, all of which served piping hot all served in a gentle & tranquil environment. Also, if you love your teas and coffees, they have a large range to choose from.”
