Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the haggis balls, called cheesey by one reviewer and ordered again on a return visit by another, with creamy garlic mushrooms and the Indian curry close behind. Others name the cabin chicken pasta, chilli on loaded fries, and a large breakfast, and describe the food as fresh, hot, and served in big portions. Reviewers also praise a well kept range of draught and bottled beers, including a local brew and Moffat Toffee, and describe the staff as welcoming and happy to have a bit of banter. The one sharply negative review calls a Sunday dinner tasteless, with raw veg, frozen yorkshire pudding, and microwaved beef slices, and says the pub has slipped since the current owners took over, though another diner praised the Sunday roast. Holidaymakers from nearby parks often ate here more than once, and families and dog owners feature heavily, with a games area, log fires, and separate dog friendly and dog free areas. Several reviewers mention that dogs get their own menu.

“My friend and I had some food in the hotel while we stayed in Southerness. The gentleman on the bar was so welcoming and he made excellent recommendations for food. The cabin chicken pasta and Indian curry were absolutely delicious! The atmosphere in the pub was fantastic: it was welcoming and the music was great. The pub is right next to the beach and it is really dog-friendly (They even had a menu for dogs!) I highly recommend you visit here if you fancy some tasty food in a fabulous location.”

“We stayed at a local Airbnb but we ate here a few times. It is dog and child friendly. There is a family area, a dog friendly area and a dog free area so they do well to accommodate everyone. The food is excellent. Everything is cooked fresh. The staff are friendly and enjoy a bit of banter. The background music is upbeat. The regulars who have caravans at the holiday park are friendly too. Highly recommend.”

“If you get the opportunity to visit add it to your list of places to go! Fantastic place with a wonderful family gaming room, wonderful service and amazing delicious food. We used this lovely hotel during our camping trip and all felt welcomed, the service was impeccable with genuine conversation and fast service that came out with high quality food with outstanding flavours and plenty of food, I would highly recommend their cheesey haggis balls and creamy garlic mushrooms, they were to die for. We enjoyed the place so much we went back and spent another afternoon here, we highly recommend it and it's suitable for all ages. And the food and drinks were priced really well and affordable as were the games of pool at £1 each, if you get the opportunity make sure it's on your list of places to visit! With the beach and lighthouse a few minutes walk from here too.”

“Friendly and welcoming staff, also the place is dog friendly. It has a very good selection of well kept draught beers and a wide selection of bottled beers, all at reasonable competitive prices. There is a good choice on the food menu. The meals are freshly cooked and good size portions.”

“We only used the hotel for food we didn't stay in the rooms so I can't say what they are like. As for the food it was amazing so amazing that we came here twice for Dinners on our little summer break at the Park Dean Resort. I tried the large Breakfast first with haggis balls and second visit was the Indian Curry with Rice Naan bread and more haggis balls. No complaints if we are ever in the area again for a holiday this hotel is definitely on the list.”
