Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return above all for the big, generous portions and the chip shop style chips, which one reviewer calls always the best. Diners also name a steak pie, haggis with leek and cheese, a plant based option and a Sunday lunch, and several praise the friendly staff and the cask beers and whisky. Dogs are welcomed, with water bowls, treats and a sausage mentioned, and one reviewer suggests booking ahead for the limited dog-friendly tables. The complaints are specific. One diner found the burger poor quality for the price, waited 38 minutes for food on a quiet day, felt the pub was freezing and found the staff inattentive. Another left some of the haggis because the cheese was thick and greasy, and a returning customer was disappointed that only one plant based dish remains where there used to be several. One reviewer likes that nobody under 14 is allowed, and another says the visit ended with a dog getting a sausage treat.

“You need to be hungry if ordering food as the portions are big! Our group of 8 had various meals off the menu and all thoroughly enjoyed them, including the dog who got a sausage treat .The staff are friendly and helpful .The Caven Arms definitely worth a visit.”

“We visited for lunch, its been a while since we were last here. Friendly waitresses and nice atmosphere. I was so disappointed to find only one plant based option, this pub used to have various options and I feel that this is a backward step. However we ordered the plant based option and it was delicious. Thank you Caverns and your chips are always THE BEST!”

“The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming — every member of the team we interacted with was lovely. We visited for Sunday lunch and the food was fantastic, with very generous portions. They were also very accommodating with our dogs, even coming over twice with treats, which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated! If you’re planning to bring dogs, I’d recommend booking in advance as they only have a limited number of dog-friendly tables. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this place for delicious home-cooked food and a great selection of drinks to enjoy alongside it.”
