About Lucky 6 Takeaway

Trading now under the name Oceans House, Lucky 6 Takeaway is a Chinese takeaway on High St in Doncaster, working to a collection model with orders placed at the counter rather than booked ahead. The menu runs through the familiar range, with salt and pepper chips served with garlic purée, chicken curry alongside a Chinese-style curry sauce, and fried rice in egg and chicken versions. Black bean sauce beef, pork chow mein and spring rolls also appear. The chips are frozen rather than fresh-cut, and portions come out plentiful across an order. Payment is cash only, so it is worth arriving with notes in hand. The shop opens daily in the evenings.

Customer Review Summary

Salt and pepper chips draw the most comment, though rarely favourably: one longtime customer who calls them a favourite describes a batch tasting of old chip oil and smoke, while others report them arriving heavily garlicky or coated in raw garlic puree to the point of being inedible. Chicken is the other recurring flashpoint, with reviewers describing it as doughy and stringy, of an uncooked texture, or so wrong that one left most of the dish and questioned whether it was chicken at all. Complaints also reach dry fried rice and a curry with no taste, and one caller recounts being refused delivery over a previously cancelled order, itself abandoned after a long wait. The positive side is warmer and simpler: black bean sauce beef described as full of meat and vegetables, pork chow mein, spring rolls and egg fried rice, with several noting quick preparation and prompt delivery. One regular mentions the takeaway now trading under a new name, and that the chips are frozen rather than fresh.

“Tried to order After taking my address and part of my order down She then asked again what address it was again . Then proceeded to tell me they wasn’t delivering to my address because we cancelled an order a few months ago !! We cancelled the order after sitting for 2 HOURS waiting for it We had people round that evening but had to leave as the order was ridiculously delayed and we called up to explain the situation So now they won’t deliver to us anymore I’d definitely recommend using another Chinese Very unprofessional company and service!!!”

“Saturday night take out ! ..... a poor excuse for a treat tonight. The delivered food was without much merit at all , other than it was hot and prompty delivered. It was almost without any discernable flavours at all, there was not a hint of garlic, no ginger back taste on the tongue, not a hint of soy sauce, no Umami, to give it bite, the texture of the beef was very, very soft as chinese food often is due to the marinade they use to tenderise, but the chicken had the texture of uncooked liver, the prawns were quite big but tastless , the only saving grace was the chineses style curry sauce but I fear this was just a portion of catering style sauce as used throughout the industry. The chips were good and the portion sizes were plentiful all round but overall the meal was disappointing and though they may make a case for " we have a different chef " or its Covids fault or its the war in the gulf or whatever, the fact is, this food came out of their kitchen and its just not up to snuff anymore, Sorry .”
