About The Apple Tree Gift Shop and Teahouse
The Apple Tree Gift Shop and Teahouse is a tearoom and gift shop at 6 Flood St in Derby, with seating in a heated barn where dogs are welcome. Blankets and hot water bottles are set out in the barn for guests to help themselves, and a small indoor cafe area sits alongside it. The menu runs from a Full English breakfast to afternoon tea, with hot chocolates that include a kinder bueno version. Gluten free bread is available, and cakes can be made to order. A gift shop on site sells hats and flowers. The barns are not bookable, so seating there is first come, first served. The teahouse keeps daytime hours only and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the hot chocolate, with the kinder bueno version called the best one a diner had tried and the pretzels perched on top described as genius. Close behind are the pulled pork and stuffing brioche, the full english breakfast, the strawberry and white chocolate scone with cream and jam, and a takeaway breakfast box praised for its presentation. A custom strawberries and cream birthday cake and the matcha also draw praise, as does gluten free bread for one diner. Many describe the barn as cosy, with blankets and hot water bottles to borrow, and several note friendly staff and fast service even when the place was packed. The caveats are modest. One reviewer says the cafe is very small with little room inside, and another was bothered by wasps outside, which cut their visit short. That same reviewer found the scone sold out on an earlier visit. Reviewers also mention the gift shop, where one partner bought a hat that drew compliments right away.

“I’ve had afternoon tea and the evening ‘after hours’ at the Apple tree several times and on each occasion it’s been perfect. The staff are very friendly and polite. The food and drinks are always delicious and the presentation is spot on with amazing attention to detail. The gift shop is also really lovely and they have some beautiful flowers. I highly recommend.”

“Good food, nice atmosphere. Even when busy the food wait time was not overly long. Although sitting outside we were slightly bothered by wasps which was not pleasant and made our stay shorter than anticipated. Staff were polite and quick to clean the tables in-between customers. Cafe itself is very small and there wasn't very much space to sit inside. Definitely recommend the strawberry and white chocolate scone with cream and jam. It is very nice. Unfortunately they had sold out last time I went. But I would go again and have the same.”

“I frequent the teahouse so I ordered a cake for my 30th birthday and the team absolutely pulled through!! The cake was delicious, I asked for strawberries and cream, the sponge was light and moist with strawberries baked in. I felt it was very good quality for the price. Thank you to the whole team for the care that went into my cake.”

“I had a the most delicious full english breakfast. Despite the heat and the volume of customers, the staff were friendly, helpful and happy to be there. I sat in the shaded area where they were playing Spanish guitar music and it really did feel like I was on holiday! I certainly will be back. Thank you!”
