About Hickory's Smokehouse Derby
Hickory's Smokehouse Derby is a restaurant on Swarkestone Rd in Derby, where the Pitmasters smoke brisket for 16 hours, cooked low and slow. Brisket and ribs anchor the menu, and the sharing platters include a smokehouse platter for two, which gives groups a way to order together. Burgers and mac join the barbecue, while frickles, chicken tacos and gumbo cover the starters and sides. The bar pours beer, hand-shaken cocktails and freakshakes, and staff point to the iced tea and whiskey cocktails. NFL games are shown in the bar during the season. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all on the schedule, and the restaurant is walk-in. Country music plays in the dining room.

Customer Review Summary
Smoked brisket and ribs draw the most praise, often ordered as sharing platters where reviewers describe a good smoke ring on the chicken and brisket, ribs falling off the bone, and a sausage that was a real treat. Close behind are the frickles, chicken tacos, corn ribs, mac and cheese, and a bourbon bacon shells starter. One reviewer called the iced tea to die for and took two more away. Portions are described as big enough that one diner brought leftovers home. Service earns steady credit, with servers and the bartender called friendly, attentive and quick, even when a single server covered a whole section. Two reviewers say they had seen mixed reviews beforehand but found nothing to fault on their own visit. One couple celebrating a graduation were brought a free brisket sample and cocktails on the house.

“EDIT: I have been back 29th of June, nothing has changed, in fact customer service is even better! They are so accommodating, then even did a surprise for my partner :) The food was wonderful, I really liked my ribs (and frickles) and my partner had great brisket. I did have to bring some home with me, as the portions are quite generous! Our server Luke was very attentive and friendly, so hopefully the message gets passed back that he did a wonderful job. I always like coming here, a very good atmosphere, fast service and great food.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic food and service. The entire restaurant was spotless and the friendly and helpful staff made the experience even better. The Frickles were amazing – definitely the dish to order again. Mac and cheese was tasty along with the corn ribs and the main the sharing platter was so good and filling meant to finish it off with hot churros with chocolate sauce and a lemon meringue cheesecake waffle.”

“Visited today for lunch and had a great experience. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was lovely, with country music adding to the vibe. I came with some mates after work for a bite to eat, and we were all impressed. Although there was only one server covering our area, she did an outstanding job serving everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible. I’d heard mixed reviews about this place before visiting, but based on my experience today, the meal and service were definitely 5-star. I’ll happily be back again.”

“Ate here a number of times now. Every time the service has been decent. Twice in the past month or so. Have the brisket and the ribs most times. What can I say I can be a hungry guy some times. Was served by GG tonight really nice lass, super attentive, really polite girl. Thanks for the service. Came to £140 for a table of 5. Tried to tip GG herself and she refused to take it saying it’s not fair and that there was a tip included that got split between the staff. Can’t knock ya honesty love but I’m not sure I would have done the same so God bless ya”

“Past a few times when going to Donington Park and booked in this time to try. Was greeted by nate from Manchester, never met him before and it felt like he was a friend within minutes. Explained the menu offering different options. We ordered the steakhouse platter for two, great smoke ring on the chicken and brisket, ribs falling off the bone and the sausage was a real treat. Will try the one near us with friends soon after nate had mentioned there is a Hickory's near Stockport. Well done to all staff that served us on Saturday evening.”
