About Hongs Take Away
Hongs Take Away is a Chinese takeaway in Cullompton, at 1 Cockpit Hill. Its kitchen cooks two styles of food: Chinese dishes from a comprehensive menu, and traditional fish and chips from the fryer. Both sit on the same menu, so a single order can cover Chinese food and fish and chips together. Chinese is the listed cuisine, and the business is also classed as a Chinese restaurant, which places the focus on its Chinese cooking with the fryer menu alongside.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for the fish and chips, praising the flavourful batter and the chips, with one calling them the best in town, though another finds the chips soggy and soft. The Chinese food is close behind, described as tasty, fresh and not loaded with MSG, and the spring rolls and a chicken chomping dish get specific praise. Portions are described as generous, and staff are called quick and friendly, with one reviewer recalling years of fast, reliable service. Recent complaints are more pointed. One reviewer found the beef chewy and gristly, the beef curry sauce powdery and bland, and the fish overcooked and mostly batter, the third bad piece in as many weeks. Another had a watered down hoisin sauce and a sloppy, undercooked pancake roll, and was unhappy with the owner's response. A third found the sweet and sour sauce tasted only of lemons. One reviewer wanted more vegetarian options, and another called the decor in need of redecoration, though service was quick enough that it hardly mattered.

“The longest Serving and best Chippy in the town, I still remember popping in during the 80s and getting a bag of chips and playing on the arcade machine in the corner. Hong and team always serve with a smile and provide a fast and reliable service. From your standard Fish and Chips supper to a delicious Chinese meal, you always know you will get a quality meal that will fill you up and leave a smile on your face.”
