About The Rising Sun Thai & Pan-Asian
The Rising Sun Thai and Pan-Asian sits on Purewell in Christchurch, with a small step down from the main road marking the entrance. The room runs a bar alongside the kitchen, serving Birra Moretti on tap and a cocktail list, and dogs are welcome inside. The menu splits into lunch and evening service, covering Thai and broader Pan-Asian dishes, with bao buns available alongside the curries and stir-fries, and prawn crackers to start. A banquet for two is offered for shared meals at the table, where wait staff check in during the course of the meal. Reservations are required for dining.

“Took my auntie and uncle for dinner and whilst the food was ok the service was non-existent because after we sat down, food ordered and delivered we didn't see a waitress for the entire meal so we never got to order additional drinks or some water so based upon that I can't recommend it.”

“Only popped in for a drink on recommendation. The service seemed more of a chore than a genuine welcome. My cocktail was very disappointing and I would not recommend but may have been the way it was mixed. It tasted very none descript and the Birra Moretti on tap was clearly not tasting right. This was reinforced when 2 other customers sent their drinks back. The complaint was promptly dealt with by the bar staff offering an alternative but we were astonished! that knowing there was a problem, continued to serve it. Lovely prawn crackers and we will be back to try the food as it all looked lovely. One other note, the step into the restaurant from the main road is dangerous as it is so dimly lit. I nearly tripped in and partner nearly tripped up on way out.”
