About Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop

Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop is a coffee shop in Chester on Station Ln, set in a large barn on a working farm, with a log burner in the middle of the room. It sits at the end of the Greenway Cycle route, which makes it a stop for cyclists and walkers. The menu starts with cooked breakfast and moves on to soup, sandwiches and paninis, and the cake counter includes millionaire's shortbread. Smoothies are also on offer. The shop is walk-in, so there is no booking to arrange. Ice cream is sold in tubs to take home.

Customer Review Summary

Cooked breakfast draws the most praise, with one diner calling it the best they have had and another naming one of the best bacon rolls they've eaten, alongside coffee described as delicious. Millionaire's shortbread, smoothies, cakes and a Thai carrot soup also earn favourable mentions. One reviewer found the lemon cake sweeter and less lemony than expected, and another wished for more iced drinks such as matchas. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, and cyclists and dog walkers make up much of the crowd. The most recurring caveat is smell. Two reviewers noticed fried food or eggs indoors, one choosing to sit outside, and another notes that the working farm brings a few farm smells. One reviewer describes a poor visit: staff walked away from a quiet queue, and another staff member warned about barn fires while the reviewer was rolling a cigarette. A first-time visitor praised the ice cream enough to take a couple of tubs home.

“First time visiting and was definitely not disappointed. Breakfast was beautiful and bought a couple of tubs to take home. Wow, wow, wow it was immense. Even better than Cheshire farm ice cream. We will definitely be back especially as it is dog friendly”

“Delicious millionaire’s shortbread. The lemon cake was a bit sweeter and less lemony than expected, but still enjoyable. The coffees were okay. We chose to sit outside because there was quite a strong smell of fried food indoors. Friendly staff and pleasant service.”

“Very nice cafe, a great stop after a bike ride or a long walk and the food and ice cream are great. I love the smoothies and cakes that they have, although me and my mum both agree that it would be amazing if they had more iced drink options such as matchas or other flavoured drinks.”

“A lovely place with a good selection of food and drinks. A bit pricey but good quality food usually is. Staff very polite and friendly.”

“Rude staff, walked away when I had queued quietly to be served, 4 staff passed by, then the server asked permission to serve me. Quite odd. I was sat in the rear garden with 12 other completely empty tables, so I wheeled my classic 40 year old bicycle with me, to keep an eye on it. Staff told me it could cause an obstruction if they were busy. Yes it would if they were busy. I then wheeled it out of the garden anyway, where it continued to cause an obstruction outside to absolutely nobody. Then I was rolling a cigarette, observing the no smoking signs. Another staff member told me I couldn't smoke. Well, I wasn't... I said I would go outside. She then warned me about aqusational barn fires. I wouldn't have minded if she was instructive and simply said please smoke beyond the gate. But to give aqusational warnings that a roll up could set a barn on fire was extremely pathetic and uncalled for... I have no idea why she felt the need to say that. I'm a responsible grown adult. The aqusational warning was beyond contempt. Now I'm irritated and aware that for whatever reason I wasn't welcome. I only wanted a coffee whilst sat quietly clearly minding my own business. Needless to say, I won't be going back”
