About Marmalade
Marmalade is a coffee shop in Chester, at 67 Northgate St, serving breakfast, brunch and lunch from a large cafe menu with daily soups. Nearly all the cakes are gluten free, with the scones the exception, and the kitchen cooks gluten free items separately from those containing gluten. A gluten free toastie on gluten free bread sits on the menu too. Afternoon tea brings sandwiches, cakes, scones, jam and clotted cream. The cafe is licensed, so beer and prosecco are served alongside the coffee, and there is a room upstairs as well as the ground floor. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Gluten free cooking draws the most praise, with reviewers describing separate preparation in the kitchen and a menu where most dishes and nearly all the cakes can be made gluten free. A celiac diner ate a gluten free afternoon tea of coronation chicken, egg mayo and salmon and cucumber sandwiches with scones, while others single out a gluten free toastie, a panini and a soft gluten free bread sandwich with a green salad. Close behind are the huge cakes, including a cheesecake one reviewer called the biggest they had seen, and fresh lunches such as a salad and crispy pork belly, whose portion was big enough to take half away. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and one server suggested a cooler table on a hot day. The one complaint comes from a brunch diner who felt staff were eager for them to leave while the cafe was full. Two reviewers suggest booking, especially at weekends. One birthday guest was handed a Prosecco to start the celebration.

“Lovely freshly prepared food. We had a wonderful brunch although we did feel a though I've we had finished eating the staff were eager for us to leave.... but this could have been because the cafe was full with people wanting to come in as its such a popular venue! We will definitely be back for tea and cake next time!”

“We had such a fantastic experience here that we came back the very next day! The food was exceptional, it was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. Every dish we had was delicious, and the quality was outstanding. What really made our visit special, though, was the staff. Everyone was so attentive, genuinely friendly, and couldn’t have been more helpful. They made us feel so welcome from the moment we walked in and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and even suggested the best table to keep cool, whilst it was a hot day! If you’re visiting Chester, this café is an absolute must. We can’t recommend it highly enough and will definitely be back next time we’re in the area!”

“This lunch was one of those moments we wished we lived in Chester. AMAZING little bite after a morning walking the city. Found it on FindMeGF app…what a treasure. Delightful staff of lovely ladies, helpful, informative. Food was just an amazing experience…very fresh sands with a side green salad, just hit the spot on an unusually hot June day! Wifey totaled loved 🥰 the GF bread…i lt was super soft and made a great sandwich (Promise GF bread). Great meal, for about what a Jersey Mike’s would cost in the states…🤔 Thanks for a great lunch break!”

“Had a lovely lunch here during my visit to Chester. The waitress was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service throughout was excellent. The food was fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the salad – everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The crispy pork belly was also very good, although the portion was much bigger than I expected! I ended up eating only half and taking the rest away. Great food, great service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Would happily visit again.”
