About Olio on the Green
Olio on the Green is an Italian restaurant in Writtle, Chelmsford, at 12-14 The Green, just off the green with views of the lake. The kitchen makes its pasta in house, and gluten-free pasta is available, served in a dining room with curved walls. The seafood linguini and garlic bread appear on the menu alongside tomato soup with lightly toasted bread, and vegetarian dishes are included for those who skip meat and fish. A back area by the kitchen holds only a few tables. The owner comes over to greet guests at the table. Reservations are required.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the staff, describing a warm welcome, attentive tables and quick service even as the room filled up. One diner notes the owner came over to greet the family at a birthday dinner. The food comes close behind, and reviewers name plenty: a tomato soup with lightly toasted bread, a prawn, crab and avocado starter packed with prawns, chicken Diane, a fillet steak served sliced, seafood linguini with garlic bread, and a salmon cooked just as requested. One anniversary diner calls it the best gluten-free Italian they have tasted, with pasta that was soft and perfectly cooked. Several describe fresh, homemade pasta and hot dishes, and one felt three courses with drinks was good value. The one caveat comes from a reviewer who found the room loud when busy, though a table in the back area by the kitchen was much more relaxed. Another reviewer, celebrating a son's GCSE results, received a congratulations message alongside his dessert.

“We came with friend for lunch, it was very good. Plenty of choice on the menu, good variety of dishes for Vegetarians. All our meals were nicely presented and hot. My Salmon was cooked exactly as I asked. This is a very clean, spacious restaurant. All the staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. The toilets were very clean. Plenty of parking, in a free car park (opposite the Duck pond), about a minutes walk away. Will definitely return 👍”

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We visited Olios on the Green yesterday with my family to celebrate my 30th birthday, and what an incredible experience it was from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the owner personally came over to say hello, shake our hands and welcome us back, which immediately made us feel so valued and appreciated. It’s those little personal touches that really make a difference. The quality of the food was absolutely outstanding — every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour and clearly made with so much care. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the attention to detail from every member of staff was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble, and the whole evening felt genuinely special. Thank you to everyone at Olios on the Green for making my 30th birthday such a memorable one. We had a fantastic evening and will definitely be back! ❤️”

“Our first time at Olios last night and it certainly won't be our last. What a fantastic venue! From the moment we arrived we were treated like old returning guests. The staff are amazing. So friendly, warm and welcoming. We had a table near the kitchen and to see how hard the chefs and staff work was a real eye opener. Every dish seemed to be freshly prepared with top notch produce. Our food was excellent and the portions more than enough. The tomato soup is to die for (and the lightly toasted bread that accompanied it was a nice touch). My wifes prawn, crab and advacado starter had so many prawns it could have been a main meal. I've had steak Diane before but never chicken Diane. The sauce was amazing and the chicken cooked to perfection. My brothers fillet steak was cooked totally to his liking. He commented he'd never had it served sliced before and thought that was a wonderful touch. We cant comment on the desserts as we were too full to order any. Drinks were reasonably priced (except maybe the price of a bottle of Coke) but the wine and port we had was superb. Overall we cannot fault Olios, will be recommending it to all our friends and family and will definitely be back. Thank you Olios!”

“Wonderful meal here, keep dreaming of the seafood linguini I had here it was delicious. Garlic bread was lovely too. Atmosphere quite loud as it was busy but we got sat in the back area by the kitchen so it was actually much more relaxed as only a few tables there. Can’t wait to go back and try more dishes!”
