About Mr. Rice Carluke
Mr. Rice Carluke is a Chinese takeaway at 8 Kirkton St in Carluke, open daily in the evenings only. Its menu includes Singapore chow mein among the noodle dishes, and chips come two ways, as salt and chilli chips or with curry sauce. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on Mr. Rice, but the most repeated praise is for massive portions, noted alongside a very busy shop where chefs can be watched cooking while customers wait. One group's post-Christmas order of curry, ribs, a salt and pepper munchie box, chicken baws and chow mein drew rave reviews, and others describe quick order turnaround and a hard-working counter worker coping under pressure. The negatives are specific. One reviewer found the beef and oyster sauce nearly meatless with tough beef, a watery sauce and wet salt and chilli chips, while another called the chicken rubbery, the char siu fatty and the chips with curry sauce uncooked. A diner who ordered the duck with ginger and spring onions reports finding two long hairs in the food. Delivery complaints include twice-incomplete orders, with rice missing and the food arriving cold after an abrupt phone reply. One reviewer notes the Singapore chow mein came without prawns.

“I ordered Singapore chow main and it was nice enough but all of a sudden all takeaways have failed to add the prawns or shrimp. It’s not Singapore chow mein without it.”

“It's ok for good, I only use it as accepts card payments.”

“Awful, just absolutely awful. First time trying Mr Rice, having tried others in Carluke with varying results and this is by far the worst. Ordered Beef and Oyster sauce and Salt N Chilli chips. There was next to no beef in the portion and what there was of it, was so touch it was like chewing a boot lace. It was bulked with more onions than a green grocer and the sauce was so watery it tasted of nothing and resembled the colour and texture of a cup of tea. The seasonigh on the chips was OK, but the chips themselves weren't just soggy, but I'd actually describe them as wet. I will never be back and would advise others to stay well clear too.”

“First time ever coming here today I’m not from the area at all this review would have been 10 minutes after I left I found two long strands of hair in my food I ordered the duck with ginger and spring onions I get one hair mistakes will happen if you don’t teach your staff to wear hair nets but two is absolutely disgusting although I probably won’t be back in the area for a while anyway I’d definitely avoid this Chinese do not recommend it’s very unfortunate now I’m more worried about getting sick if such little attention to detail was taken with preparing food”

“Honestly can’t fault this Chinese takeaway! This is the 3rd time I have ordered food and each time has been amazing. Portions are massive and price is very reasonable, very quick at getting orders out also”
