About Sage & vine
Sage & vine is a pizza restaurant at 5 The Crescent in Carlisle, where the wood-fired oven faces into the dining room and its fire is visible from seats near the bar. The Burrata pizza comes from that oven. Alongside the pizzas, the kitchen serves tapas and sharing boards, with small plates like croquettes meant to be shared across the table. Desserts arrive on a board, and the chocolate torte is one of them. The bar pours wine, draught beer and cocktails to go with the food. The restaurant opens Tuesday to Saturday and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It sits close to the rail station.

“We came here for graduation late lunch and what a find! Superb food, great atmosphere and friendly team. We had 6 tapas and a pizza between four of us and all of it was delicious. Also had the chocolate torte for pudding, incredible! The other deserts we saw coming out looked amazing too. Thank you for making our lunch so special”

“We visited the „Sage&Vine“ yesterday. Long story short: it was fantastic. My pizza (named „Macho“) was probably the best I ever ate. The service was outstanding. Please, do not change anything but the music. Smoother and with less volume would be great.”

“The food was amazing, tasted just like you could’ve eaten it in Italy 😍 We don’t eat meat so it’s always refreshing to eat some surprising vegetarian dishes! The staff were really friendly and it was very reasonably priced. We stayed 3 days in Carlisle and ate there 2 days running! unfortunately I only took photos of the puddings 😅”

“Tonight was my 3rd time here, I took my sister for her birthday and it was phenomenal as always! Great service, cocktails and food! This is my 2nd time ordering the fish platter too!”

“Conveniently close to the rail station so we went for a quick lunch. Quick service, outstanding food, and good beer. We had 90m to change trains en route from Edinburgh to Skipton —perfectly timed for lunch. The food was so good we might be tempted to take a day-return next time, just for the lunch.”

Customer Review Summary
Pizza is what reviewers raise most, with the burrata pizza and one named "Macho" singled out as the best they have eaten, praised for a fluffy crust, good dough and local ingredients, and a pizza oven fire visible from the bar. Tapas come close behind, including halloumi fries, croquettes, patatas bravas, ham hock, beef and chorizo dishes, and a crab bonbon, with portions described as ample. A charcuterie board, a fish platter, and a chocolate torte also draw praise, alongside Jubel beer on draught and a malbec the staff recommended. Vegetarian diners found the dishes surprising and Italian in taste. The caveats are small but specific. One reviewer found the calamari overdone, another group wanted more seasoning and flavour, one wanted more cheese on the board, and one asked for smoother, quieter music. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one party without a booking was squeezed in with a child, while a waitress boxed up an uneaten pizza for the next day.
