About The Pizza Base
The Pizza Base is a pizza restaurant on Lonsdale St in Carlisle, at number 4-10, where the menu pairs pizza with doner meat and chicken kebab dishes. That mix means one order can cover both a pizza and a kebab. The pizzas are baked in a pizza oven and come in deep pan, with 16 inch and 17 inch sizes for larger appetites. The Margarita pizza sits among the choices, and the chicken kebab is served with chilli sauce. Garlic cheese bread is on the menu as a side. Garlic mayo and chilli sauce come in pots with orders.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers are split, and the pizza base itself is the most common complaint. Several describe crusts that were raw or mushy in the middle, a deep pan that arrived thin, and a base that tasted stale, with one regular saying quality has slipped this year. Another found three pizzas overcooked, with a pepperoni hard to identify, and said the phone response only offered a discount on a reorder. Praise is thinner. One reviewer enjoyed a pizza full of flavour without a greasy box, plus the doner meat and halloumi fries, and another favours the southern chicken and chips and a margarita pizza, calling service and delivery good. Takeaway orders also drew complaints about wrong sauces, with garlic mayo arriving instead of chilli sauce, and a delivery to Durdar that took over two hours. Others mention garlic cheese bread with no garlic, soggy chips, and shish that looked stewed. One reviewer found the staff helpful with a large order, while another who asked for salt and vinegar on chips said it was left off.

“Placed an order for 3 pizzas tonight . All 3 pizzas looked over cooked , 1 of pizza was supposed to be pepperoni ( hard to tell to be honest ) we were all hungry but these pizzas were rubbish . Rang to complain but female on the phone only offered a discount if we re ordered !! Not using this place again”

“Pizza was full of flavour, no greasy box like most takeaways. Donna Meat was also really nice and for the price very worth it. Halumi fries also nice but do prefer them not to be fried.”

“My partner ordered two pizzas for us by the time I had one slice I realised that the dough was mushier than a normal pizza base which then I took a closer look and realised that my pizza base was raw all the way through. The top of the pizza looked fine however the middle of the crust and the base were raw!!! We will not be purchasing again!!”

“A pretty straightforward order of doner meat with no crazy specifications. Our first time visiting, and our last. Hair in the doner, talk about falling at the first hurdle.”
