About I Love Cafe
I Love Cafe is a cafe in the centre of Carlisle, found up a side lane at 20-21 St Cuthbert's Ln. Vintage-style decor with teapots and crockery fills the room, and a display cabinet of homemade cakes and sweet treats includes millionaire's cake. Breakfast is served, including the I Love Café Breakfast, and the lunch menu turns to ciabattas and toasties, such as ham hock and smoked cheese. A daily specials board lists soups served with a ciabatta roll. Staff seat guests at a table, hand over a menu and take orders there. A loyalty card covers scones and cakes, and peak times usually bring a wait for a table. The cafe opens Tuesday to Saturday, daytime only, and closes on Mondays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Homemade cakes draw the most mentions at I Love Cafe, with reviewers singling out the millionaires cake, the brownies and a gluten-free cake so good one diner double-checked it was the right one. Lunch comes close behind, including ham hock and smoked cheese toasties with homemade coleslaw, cream of broccoli soup with a warm ciabatta, a cheese scone with skin on fries, and truffle fries. The I Love café Breakfast is called extremely tasty, and a regular says all food is cooked fresh to order. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, and reviewers like the vintage feel, lovely teapots and Northern theme. The recurring trade-off is crowding: several say it is always very busy, with one noting a wait at peak times. One diner was disappointed that steak fajita pannies arrived on a toasted french baguette, which made them very crunchy rather than in pannie bread. One reviewer was let order from the lunch menu ahead of time.

“Popped in for a bit of lunch, food was amazing - including the brownies! While we there it got quite busy but the staff were absolutely fantastic. Especially Amelia I think she said her name was ( blonde haired lady) she was so kind to everyone she served and everyone that walked through the door. Would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back!”

“First visit today, as for the first time there was availability...its always very busy. After having lunch, we can understand why there is never a spare table. I had the ham hock and smoked cheese toasties which was served with a colourful side salad and delicious homemade coleslaw. My wife had the homemade cream of broccoli soup with a warm ciabatta roll (there was a choice of two different soups on the daily specials board). We also had a cappuccino and an iced latte. The cafe is spotlessly clean and the staff were all very pleasant and polite. There was a display cabinet of delicious looking cakes and sweet treats. We must come back to sample some of those.”

“My first visit, I've been meaning to go for ages. Located in St Cuthbert's Lane furthest from the city centre, it's inviting from outside and cosy and warm inside. You're welcomed with a very appropriate Northern theme. I waited to be seated, was given a menu, and time to ask questions before deciding on my treat. I have to say with so many sweet and savoury treats on offer it took some deciding. The cheese scone and skin on fries with Earl Grey tea were the order of the day. Delicious. I will have to return to sample the sweet treats. The atmosphere and decor were fantastic, and the staff were helpful, friendly, and super efficient. You can pay cash or card, and there's a loyalty card for scones and cakes!!! This cafe is accessible and I observed a customer in a wheelchair navigating the premises with ease. A very busy little cafés so you might need to be prepared to wait at peak times.”
