About Giggling Squid - Cambridge
Giggling Squid is a Thai restaurant at 2 Wheeler St in Cambridge, housed in a former 19th-century library with its historic walls and fireplaces still in place. It faces the Cambridge Arts Theatre and the Cambridge Corn Exchange Theatre, and King's College is minutes away. The kitchen cooks Thai food built around sharing, with Thai Tapas Sets at lunch alongside classic curries and spicy stir fries, so a table can order several dishes and pass them around. A drinks list of Thai-inspired cocktails runs next to the food. Thai beers are on that list too.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the building, a former library with historic walls and fireplaces that several call beautiful. Among dishes, the drunken noodles come up twice, praised for tender chicken and lovely noodles, though one wanted more kick. The prawn hot pot, duck spring rolls, roti and ribs are also named as very good or delicious, and one reviewer suggests trying the Thai beers. The children's menu is called especially excellent. Criticism is scattered but specific. One diner found their food undercooked and inedible, though management was polite and accommodating. Another waited about 25 minutes after a mix up over who was serving their table and received complimentary first drinks. Others mention popular dishes being out of stock, staff who seemed tired in what felt like an understaffed room, and a dining room that one found dark, loud and warm by the end of the meal. Two reviewers call it expensive or a bit pricey. Birthday diners describe free desserts with messages written in sauce.

“Really tasty and authentic Thai food, with generous portion sizes that left us more than satisfied. The restaurant itself is set inside a beautifully restored old building, which gives it a lovely atmosphere, and the air conditioning was very welcome on such a hot day. The toilets were also spotlessly clean and well maintained. The staff were all super friendly and attentive throughout our visit, and our server, Tarah, made sure we had an excellent experience from start to finish. We were also celebrating my mum’s birthday, and the team surprised her with a selection of ice cream and fruit along with a lovely written birthday message, which was a really thoughtful touch. The food, drinks and overall experience were excellent. I’d also recommend trying one of the Thai beers, which paired really well with the meal. It is on the expensive side, but I genuinely think it’s worth it for the quality of the food, the beautiful setting and the level of service. Overall, one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to and somewhere I’d happily return.”

“I went to Giggling Squid for lunch when I was visiting Cambridge. The interior is very beautiful and the building was a library in the 19th century. The food was nice and the staffs were friendly. I will definitely revisit.”

“My first visit to this restaurant was lovely. The duck spring rolls and roti were delicious. The drink and food menus offered a wide selection. The only downside was some popular meals were out of stock. It would have been great if they had more of these best sellers. Overall, it’s a lovely place to dine with friends or family. The interior is beautiful, perfect for taking photos, and the building retains its historic walls and fireplaces. I would go again.”

“The building is absolutely stunning! I am told it was formerly a library. It is the most beautiful restaurant in Cambridge by far. Sadly the food wasn't great. My food was undercooked & inedible. The management were very polite, helpful & accommodating. I only wish the food had matched the outstanding service from the staff & the beautiful building.”

“The decoration and overall atmosphere of the restaurant were very nice. The food was tasty, and the children’s menu was especially excellent. However, some of the staff seemed a little unhappy or tired during service. It felt as though the restaurant might have been understaffed, which may have affected the overall mood. Aside from that, we had a pleasant experience.”
