About Tafarn Y Porth
Tafarn Y Porth is a Wetherspoon pub on Greengate St in Caernarfon, right beside the castle walls, where staff and customers chat in Welsh. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with gourmet burgers, freshly made pizzas and vegetarian choices. For smaller appetites, a three small plates deal combines halloumi fries, chicken bites and chips. The drinks list pairs local beers with beers from other parts of the country, alongside real ales, craft beers, gins, cider and Guinness. Tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills. Guests can order through the Wetherspoon app and have food and drinks brought to the table. An interactive screen lets them check allergens.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to value, with cheap drinks and low-priced local and national beers topping the praise. The three small plates deal of leaded chips, halloumi fries and chicken bites comes up as tasty and quick, alongside a jacket potato with beans and cheese, a warm mini cookie dough, share platters and a lightly spiced chicken pitta with tzatziki. Several mention friendly staff and fast table delivery through the app, plus a terrace and garden, a location by the castle walls, and a local feel with Welsh spoken among customers and staff. Complaints are smaller but specific. One diner waited through three requests for missing sides and ended up with a drink swapped in, another found app orders slower than usual, and a few mention noisy, loud talkers on a Friday night. One reviewer was disappointed that dogs are not welcome. One diner was impressed by the interactive allergen screen, and another had the beer's origin explained when asked.

“Another great 'Spoons. Huge and various places to sit. Usual adequate food and cheap drinks. The only minor irritation was people who were talking so loud you couldn't avoid the sweary detail but luckily they switched to Welsh which helped. In fairness it was Friday night. Very beautifully situated within the castle walls and super quick service.”

“Dropped in for food and drinks on an overnight stay with bike pals. Food (share platters) were fresh and tasty. I not drink alcohol, but informed the cider, craft beets and Guinness were great value. Staff delivered to table on the app and quick, efficient service. Pub clean, tables cleared regularly and couldn't fault it.”

“I would have given 5, however, in a seaside town, it's not dog friendly! The food was great and speedy in Weatherspoons fashion. Service was good and building cool too, lovely garden out the back. I will pop back in when next in town (without the dog)”

“Arrived at about 2.30 pm on a Monday, and there was a choice of tables free. Our food arrived very quickly, as we had missed the busy lunch time. Staff were great, and so was the atmosphere. 'Tafarn y Porth' is a favourite locally, and it has a genuinely Welsh flavour, staff and customers chatting in Cymraeg y gogledd - North Wales accent. You'll feel at home here 👍”

“Lightly spiced chicken on a pitta with tzatziki sauce, fries and salad - absolutely delicious! Well worth the price and very filling. Very cosy atmosphere in the room, we were there for late lunch and luckily got a table for 4.”
