Customer Review Summary

The setting by the weir and lake draws the most praise, with reviewers describing a beautiful, relaxing view, sheep in a nearby field and a real fire glowing indoors. Close behind is its appeal to families and dog owners, with a lovely play area and outside tables. Food gets a mixed response. Diners enjoyed a panini with plenty of salad, thick ham with eggs and chips, a mushroom and haloumi burger, and strong coffee with cream tea. The complaints are specific. One reviewer's eggs Benedict arrived with raw eggs, bread instead of muffins, a runny sauce and cold, and was swapped for salmon, while a big breakfast egg came back undercooked with the beans left off. Another found the food poor value with cheap ingredients, and one noted the lack of vegan options. One reviewer deleted a bad Mothers Day review after staff put things right, then returned for a meal they called very good.

“Lovely thick (low salt) ham, eggs and chips with peas. My wife had a lovely mushroom and haloumi burger. Great location and excellent food. Only negative is the lack of Vegan options.”

“Nice setting, but we found the food very disappointing. It was not good value. The ingredients came across as cheap and the cooking /presentation poor. Interestingly a number of reviews posted on trip advisor are not complementary. They could do much better. The beer was nice though!”

“Stopped off for breakfast. It was really lovely that they had options outside of the normal full English and bacon butty! The location was truly fabulous, right next to the beautiful weir / lake, with sheep in a field. Was very relaxing despite being just off the A39. Staff were polite and efficient. Cleanliness was top notch. The quality of the food was average, not great, or amazing. We would go back, but more for the location, environment, cleanliness and staff rather than the breakfast food.”

“I had eggs Benedict it was terrible.swapped for salmon. The eggs were raw. They were on bits of bread not muffins.and the sauce was so runny and watery and to finish it off the whole thing was cold.My husband had the big breakfast the egg wasn’t cooked properly when we’d sent it back ,when it came back the beans had been left off. The restaurant has certainly gone down in the couple of years we last visited it.”

“Having wrote a bad review for mothers day, which I have now deleted. Nicki from the Weir put everything right for us and we returned for a meal today. The service was excellent and the food was very good. I would now definitely return again and would recommend that people pay them a visit. It is in a beautiful spot with a very relaxing atmosphere. Thank you Nicki for giving us the opportunity of a return visit.”
