About Salt on the Harbour

Salt on the Harbour is a seafood restaurant on S Marine Dr in Bridlington, set on the working harbour with a dining room that overlooks the water. Seven bedrooms upstairs make it a stayover as well as a place to eat, and breakfast for guests includes a full Yorkshire. The menu features a fresh lobster and crab salad, and the fish and chips come with curry sauce if you ask for it. A counter at the front handles fish and chips orders separately from the dining room, and a buzzer signals when an order is ready to collect. Drinks are not sold at that counter and must be bought from the bar in the restaurant, where Shipyard is on tap. Dogs are welcome. The car park next door is subject to a fine, so drivers need to use the designated restaurant spaces.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips from the takeaway draw the most mentions, with one reviewer calling them the best ever, though others find the portions small and expensive. Lobster and crab salad earn praise, as does the full Yorkshire breakfast. The recurring complaint is slow restaurant service, with cold chips and a second pint taking twenty minutes. One diner received a parking fine after parking in the neighbouring lot.

“We have eaten here from the takeaway numerous times and had the best fish & chips ever. We were therefore really looking forward to eating in the restaurant, only to be disappointed. The chips were cold and no one came near us to check if everything was OK. When they eventually came to clear away our half eaten plates they just said sorry we are short staffed tonight.”

“We went to Salt on the Harbour for lunch during our visit to Bridlington and had Haddock and Chips for our lunch from the Takeaway. It was expensive for what it was and like others have said the portion size was on the small side (I expect the response will be that portion sizes are reviewed regularly as has been the case for other reviews - I wonder when they will be increased as per the feedback?). It was tasty and freshly cooked, and despite it being busy the wait wasn’t too long. Having to buy drinks from the restaurant because none are available from the takeaway seems a little strange, and was inconvenient. The curry sauce was sweet and fruity - I prefer the more traditional chip shop curry sauce, but that’s my preference.”

“The food was excellent. We visited on two nights and enjoyed our meals. Unfortunately, on our second visit, the restaurant was very busy ( a good reflection on the meals) which meant the service was very (and I mean very) slow. Simply not enough staff to cope with demand.”

“Had the most amazing stay here and I’d personally like to thank the full team, from cleaner to bar staff, waiters/waitresses, chefs and managers for giving us the best time here! We absolutely loved it. We booked a room and it was brilliant, modern clean and spacious for the two of us. We decided to stay for dinner outside the front at the takeaway, my god the fish n chips were just the best! We also stopped and had many drinks and was soo happy when I saw my friend shipyard on tap!! Double winner! Breakfast this morning was lovely and with a nice view of the harbour. The full Yorkshire was very filling and the ingredients top notch!! Staff quick to seat us, take our order and deliver our breakfast to us! All in all a fab time had, I’m done with the premier inns and so on, I’d rather support Jerome’s and smaller businesses and stay, eat, drink local. Thankyou for a lovely time SOTH! Well worth the money!”

“BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK. We had a lovely meal here last Monday, from the fresh lobster to the crab salad, and the service was excellent. My only issue was with the parking, as we just received a hefty fine for parking in the lot just next to the restaurant. It would have been nice to have been informed about the parking by the staff upon entering the establishment as we are now stuck with a £60 parking fine. So when you arrive, make sure you are parked in one of the restaurant's designated spots.”
