Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the curries and shared Thai dishes, with the Khao Mok Moo, a chilli pork biryani-style rice wrapped in a lotus leaf, singled out as a particular highlight. Close behind are the salt and pepper squid, the pad Thai, a red curry with roti, and a chicken massaman with jasmine rice. Several mention the street food sharer and the Sleeping Honey Set, and the iced Thai tea and Thai iced coffee get praise as drinks. Diners also describe the decor as beautiful and the portions as generous, and one notes there are vegan options. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, with recommendations that reviewers say turned out right. The only caution is that the toilets are upstairs, which one reviewer flags for anyone who struggles with stairs. One returning customer was remembered by the staff and surprised with a mango cake and ice cream, and a birthday diner was given complimentary ice cream.

“I was a PhD student at university of Birmingham. This is my favorite restaurant since I was a student. I flew from Thailand for summer degree congregation. I met the same staff, they remembered my favorite dessert. They surprised me with the mango cake with ice cream. salt and pepper squid always the best in the UK. Mew waitress always smiles and she remembered my favorite dish. Bee (chief) always did her great cook. I love you guys, I came here alone but I am not lonely anymore. Love you and thank you so much, you made my day.”

“A Fantastic Thai Feast at Giggling Squid Harborne – with Special Thanks to Carlo! I recently visited here for lunch with two friends, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming – the perfect setting for a relaxed meal with good company. The food was nothing short of delicious. We ordered a great selection to share: · Sleeping Honey Set – crispy honey duck with chicken cashew stir fry, spring rolls, and jasmine rice · Melt In The Mouth – a rich, flavourful dish that truly lives up to its name · Streetfood-2 – a tasty Thai street food platter · Khao Mok Moo – a wonderful Thai take on biryani, with fragrant wok-fried rice and chilli pork wrapped in a lotus leaf · Pak Choi / Stem · Mango Passion · Thai Iced Coffee Every dish was packed with bold, authentic Thai flavours, and the portion sizes were generous. The Khao Mok Moo was a particular highlight – we’d never tried anything quite like it before, and it was absolutely delicious. What really made the experience exceptional, however, was Carlo. He was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain each dish clearly and enthusiastically, helping us make the right choices for our group. His passion for the food and genuine warmth made us feel truly looked after throughout the meal. It’s rare to come across service that feels so personal and sincere – Carlo is a real asset to the team! If you’re looking for authentic Thai food in a lively, friendly setting, I can’t recommend Giggling Squid Harborne enough. And if you’re lucky enough to be served by Carlo, you’re in for a real treat! We’ll definitely be back soon.”
