About African Village Restaurant & Late Bar
On Farm St in Birmingham, African Village Restaurant & Late Bar is a West African restaurant that also runs as an African nightclub, with a DJ playing music from across the African continent every Friday and Saturday. That gives the venue a dance floor soundtrack for weekend nights as well as a dining room for meals. The menu centres on Nigerian and Cameroonian cooking, with Ogbono soup and Nkwobi among the dishes. Grilled fish, including tilapia and croaker, comes with a choice of jollof or plantain. The bar pours a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including the Cameroonian drink Top. The kitchen also draws on East African and Southern African cooking alongside its West African base.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for traditional Nigerian cooking that reminds them of home, and one diner travelled from London for the Oha soup. Isi Ewu and Nkwobi are each singled out by regulars, while others praise grilled fish, including tilapia with jollof and croaker with plantain, and goat meat kebabs with a hot chilli sauce. Several mention decent portions and a DJ playing African music, which one calls electric. The complaints centre on consistency and pace. Reviewers describe long waits for fried rice and other orders, an Ogbono soup that was slightly bland, overcooked vegetable, and fried rice that was not spicy. Another found the Sandza watery and lumpy. A delivery customer received what looked like watery egusi instead of the Assorted Meat Soup Starter pepper soup enjoyed in the restaurant. One former regular calls the last few visits mid, yet still praises the Cameroonian drink Top.
