About Slug & Lettuce - Birmingham

Slug & Lettuce is a cocktail bar in Birmingham, on The Waters Edge in Brindley Place, open daily. The drinks list runs to 241 cocktails every day, and the Pornstar Martini Tree is served for sharing around a table. A two-for-one cocktail offer runs alongside it, and lunch and dinner deals cover the food side, with nachos and bottles of rosé on the order list. The Mixr app carries cocktail offers, points and orders. A barcode on each table starts an order, and app orders are collected at the bar, where staff serve and card payments are taken. Bottomless brunch has its own section with table service and is booked in advance. It includes prosecco, and the servers keep glasses topped up. Friday and Saturday run late, which makes the bar an option for late-night drinks with a group.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. One diner says food took over two hours on a Sunday and arrived cold, with a broken coke machine and table barcode app that failed. Another reports staff standing around ignoring customers on a quiet Wednesday, and a third describes a rude bar worker, with the manager offering 25% off the bill. Outdoor tables were described as sticky, with overflowing ashtrays, and the nachos came with processed-tasting cheese and weren't warm.

“Absolutely awful experience at Slug & Lettuce Brindleyplace. The staff attitudes were genuinely shocking — rude, dismissive and completely lacking in basic customer service. The worst was a blonde woman sitting behind the bar when we first arrived, who had an unbelievable attitude from the start. She was the rudest of them all and seemed determined to make customers feel unwelcome. Her attitude was so unnecessarily confrontational that it could easily have caused a situation. You never know who you’re speaking to, so maybe think twice before treating people with such disrespect. We complained to the manager, who gave us 25% off the bill, but honestly, that wasn’t enough to compensate for the time we wasted or how badly we were treated. A discount doesn’t magically fix terrible service and outright rudeness. We came out for a nice time and instead left feeling irritated and disrespected. So much so that we had to take part in a boxing class after leaving There are plenty of other places around Brindleyplace where staff actually know how to speak to customers. Definitely won’t be rushing back.I’m just going home”

“We stopped here for a couple of drinks and took advantage of the two-for-one cocktail offer, which was great value. The staff were really friendly, and we enjoyed sitting outside. I shared a bottle of rosé with a friend, which was lovely. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating area let the experience down. The tables were sticky, there were food spills all over the floor, and the ashtrays were overflowing, so it didn't feel very clean. I also ordered the nachos, which were disappointing. They came with what tasted like processed cheese rather than melted cheese, and they weren't even warm. Overall, it's cheap and the staff are welcoming, but the cleanliness and food quality need improving.”

“Came for a bottomless on a Wednesday for a catch up with a friend. Our server was Gwen. What an absolute gem. She made sure we had drinks at all times. 100% recommend for a bottomless. Never been anywhere for one that I prefer. Gwen you’re a legend!!!”

“Had a wonderful experience at Slug & Lettuce, Brindleyplace! The food was delicious, the drinks were excellent, and the staff were absolutely fantastic—attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout. Everything came together for a great visit. Highly recommend! I will definitely be back with my mates when out in Brindly Place again, went to see Ozzy Osbourne's bench.”

“I visited this place on the 5th of July on a Sunday and it was dead the food took over 2 hours to come out to us and there was only four of us it also came out cold A member of staff a large black woman was very rude to a new member of staff in front of everyone I was very uncomfortable to watch and hear The coke machine was broken which was great when I had two children with me. Just overall a very poor experience not to mention the app not working via the barcode on the tables. Will definitely not be using the establishment again”
