About The Physician
The Physician is a pub on Harborne Rd in Birmingham, laid out as a large bar with rooms of different sizes leading off it. Those rooms include a drawing room and a corner with winged chairs by the fire, so groups and couples can choose a setting to suit their visit. High ceilings run through the building. The kitchen serves roast dinners, with beef roast on the menu, alongside fish and chips. Pints and a selection of beers on draught are poured at the bar. The team accommodates special dietary requirements and allergens. When the restaurant is full, bar seating takes the overflow.

What reviewers say
Reviewers most often mention fish and chips, sunday roast, tagliatelle and garden seating.
Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with the Sunday roasts and the tagliatelle named repeatedly. Diners single out roast beef, a venison pie, lamb shoulder, pigeon and a banoffee cheesecake, while others mention scallops, squid, chicken pâté and cinnamon ice cream. Service is close behind, described as friendly, attentive and quick, with several noting the kitchen accommodated special dietary requirements. One reviewer praised a gin served properly rather than just with lemon, and another was given a table in the bar when the restaurant was full. The building draws comments for its character, high ceilings, fire, garden and shaded seating. A few mention a good draught beer selection and a buzz around the bar. One reviewer suggests booking in advance. The one criticism comes from a diner who found the fish and chips ok, with a very thin fillet and skimpy chips, though others at the table loved it. One visitor was brought a bottle of water at the table, and reviewers call it a lovely touch.

“We loved the garden area, plenty of seating and decent sized umbrellas to provide some shade. The staff are so helpful and nice here, brilliant. Two of our group chose the roasts and loved them. I had the fish and chips, for me it was ok, I have had better fish and chips, a very thin fillet and a bit skimpy on the chips. That said everyone else loved it. I did have a trio of ice creams that were brilliant though.”

“This was our first ever visit to the Physician for lunch today with our Brummie Aunties. The venue is spectacular and felt extremely welcoming. All the staff were kind and attentive, especially Charlie who waited on us. Many thanks to him and the chef for accommodating special dietary requirements. This made our group feel special. We will definitely coming back.”

“Another superb visit. All staff friendly, polite and efficient as normal. Special shout out to the bar staff who served the gin we ordered as a perfect serve rather than just putting lemon in it. Seems like such a simple thing, but loads of bar staff overlook this, even in places where gin is the USP!”

“Popped in out the blue on Sunday, couldn't fit us in the restaurant but was more than accomdating by giving us a table in bar Bottle of water brought to table, lovely touch . Food was exquisite, from starters to the 3 Sunday dinners, Can't recommend this place enough and would give it a 10 star if could”

“The Physician is a grand building that presides over a cross roads in the leafy suburbs of Edgbaston on the Calthorpe estate. It has a large, well-stocked bar at the heart of the building, with rooms of all shapes and sizes spilling off from it ‚Äì so if you would like to recline in a winged chair by the fire, dine in a grand old drawing room or indeed sit in the sunshine in the walled terrace and watch the world go by, this is the pub for you.”
