“It was our first time here. We were brought up on Manzes, Cookes, Arments, Moreen's and Kelly's pie n mash for a lifetime. This was none of the above! We thought we'd give it a try as we were in the area. The shop was very clean. I ordered and took them to our table. The meal looked the part, very tempting. When it comes to entering the pie lid, this was our first sign. There was no easy way to tackle the hardness of the pastry, it wasn't you normal flakey pastry lid, it was more biscuit. I took the lid off to be met with the filling.... dried up mince! No gravy! Going back to tackling the lid... it took quite a hard push to get through it. This revealed how springy the table was absorbing my efforts. All our pies were the same. We sat trying to enjoy our meal which was difficult over the loud music! If it wasn't the loud music, it was the VERY loud voices coming from behind the counter to combat the loud music! So much so that I couldn't speak to the person opposite me without raising our voices in competition with those behind the counter. I sat trying to finish my meal when someone cleaned the table behind me. They filled the air with some lemon scented cleaner, after this all I could taste and smell was lemon anti-bac. Meal ruined!!! We wouldn't return here. As a pie and mash shop it's ok, but it's not what we would call original pie and mash. They did mash scrapes which was a positive. The noise was unbelievable! It is a cash only venue. I can only imagine the high scores are from people that were brought up on Miller's.”
