Customer Review Summary

The steak sandwich splits opinion. One diner liked its peppercorn sauce but found it more done than ordered, while another said it held only pulled beef. Complaints about value and execution recur. One reviewer found the scampi portion small and the milkshake tasted of milk and strawberry powder. Another called the morning stack bagel dry, with cheese slices they compared to fast food, and the Ulster fry overpriced, with black pudding and hash brown charged extra. A Mac burger reviewer found the mash bland, and one roast beef dinner arrived without roast potatoes. One breakfast diner said the cappuccino had no foam and looked like a white americano.

“Salt Kitchen is a modern, seemingly American-inspired restaurant with an open, airy ambiance. To start I sampled the Cauliflower, which was deep fried, and served with two sauces. The one that may be confused with mustard actually has curry spice, and is sweet, as is the other sauce. For my main course I ordered the Mac burger. The bun is moist on the inside, & crispy on the outside. The beef patty is relatively thick, with a good amount of juicyness & seasoning, and is crisp on the outside. The Mac bites are crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, but don't contribute much to the flavor of the burger. However, the applied ketchup & pickle relish add a nice amount of tang. For my side I decided to try the buttery mash. This was somewhat disappointing, as it had a very nondescript flavor. It can be made somewhat better by the salt/pepper found on the table, but both are from a shaker rather than grinder, so the flavor still couldn't be improved much. Overall Salt Kitchen had good food, and the service was friendly enough, as well as quick.”

“I had the steak sandwich, which was a bit more done than the mid rare I ordered, however the peppercorn sauce was quite delicious. The prices were reasonable, with a casual atmosphere.”

“My husband and I went for breakfast here for the first time. We’ve always had lunches/dinners here and it’s been okay, nothing too exciting but we thought we might just try their breakfast anyway see if it’s any better. Well I don’t usually write reviews but I thought this might be relevant to others. I had the morning stack which was the bagel, sausages, bacon and egg. It said it had “American cheese” if only I had known, it was just them cheap cheese slices you’d get from McDonald’s, I would’ve got something else! You can buy a pack of 20 for £2 at Lidl (probably cheaper!). It was dry, nothing special and definitely not worth the price of £12.50! My husband ordered Ulster fry, again, nothing special, just overpriced fry and if you want black pudding or hash brown you’d have to pay extra £3! Anyway, my husband and I were completely disappointed even more when we found out our meal came to about £38 after ordering a cappuccino and earl grey with our meal. Not to mention the cappuccino didn’t even look nowhere near like one. No foam on top, just looked like a white americano. I personally think their menus and food standards were far better when it was still Linen Hill. I loved going there for meals especially breakfast. Unfortunately, since then, the food just went downhill.”

“Nicest food I have had in a long time. Weake fantastic meals at home so we are always apprehensive about eating out. As it was father's day, my wife treated me to a meal here (I got the fish and chips and she got the spice bag loaded fries). They were impecible dishes. Even the little ones enjoyed their pizza and baby bowl respectively. I'm not normally one for wordy reviews but this place deserved it.”
