About Late August

Late August is an American restaurant in Houston, set inside the Ion building at 4201 Main St Ste 120, where a bar and lounge format sit alongside a menu that draws from Southern and seafood influences. Much of its identity comes from the contrast between the polished bar and lounge setting and a kitchen that leans into composed plates rather than bar snacks. The Citrus Pork Confit is a popular main, and the Chili Relleno appears among the mains as a grounded option within the range of the menu. Cocktails are listed as a popular category, anchoring the bar side of the experience. The space works as both a restaurant and a lounge, so dinner can lead into drinks without changing venues.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently celebrate the tasting menu as the standout experience, with diners praising the inventive flavor progression, artful presentations, and thoughtful wine or drink pairings that several describe as memorable enough to spark ongoing conversation. The cinnamon sugar dessert, chocolate four ways, and dressed oysters come up as specific highlights, and the tacodillas and jambalaya also draw praise from those who ordered them. Service is frequently described as warm and knowledgeable, with staff offering menu guidance and checking on diners' experience. A few reviewers note uneven moments, including a carryout order where the Texas Caesar arrived without the expected protein and required a return visit, and one diner found the tasting courses lighter than anticipated. Several suggest making a reservation, especially for special events or Valentine's dinner.

Absolutely exquisite. Remarkable. Delectable. Just wow wow wow. We went on a Friday night for a double date and hosted for the tasting menu with the wine pairings. As someone who has toured around the world and been to countless Michelin restaurants, I have to say this may be the very first time a restaurant has nailed it on every single pairing. I was deeply impressed by the presentations of the dishes and how they later told a story with each bite. I didn’t get all of the photos as they were 13 courses? Anyway, don’t hesitate, just go!

Really enjoyed my dinner here. The service was a bit spotty but the food made up for it. Really unique flavors throughout the tasting menu and the cinnamon sugar dessert was some of the best dessert in Houston. This place is worth checking out

I had an amazing first time experience at Late August the moment i entered the service was top tier. I had dinner with a girlfriend and we both loved our food. We will be back for sure! Melissa is amazing, the GM, and the chefs are so kind! I highly recommend. 10 stars if it were an option! -Kat

Ordered the Texas Caesar to carry out. Server didn’t advise about protein being extra or ask if any was desired. Paid $15 for a few pieces of lettuce, a cherry tomato cut in half, maybe two slices of avocado, and some dressing. This took 25 min to prepare. Realized there was no protein and returned. The GM shared protein was extra, to which I responded with surprise given the price. It took them another 20 min to prepare a small amount of thin pieces of chicken.
