About Gramercy Tavern

Gramercy Tavern is a Michelin-starred New American restaurant in the Flatiron District of New York, set at 42 E 20th St. The menu centers on modern, seasonal American dishes, and the kitchen is led by a recognized chef whose direction shapes the restaurant's identity. The Tavern Burger anchors the mains and is served with stone-ground mustard and a cheese dip, while Roasted Duck Breast & Confit offers a composed plate built around duck prepared two ways. A Wine Pairing option supports the dining format, letting guests match selections to the seasonal menu. Reservations are advised because the dining room fills on a regular schedule, and the bar provides an additional seating option for those without a confirmed time. The tavern setting spans two floors, giving the restaurant distinct areas for service and a grounded sense of place within the neighborhood.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently single out the burger as a standout dish, with several calling it one of the best in the city. The seasonal menu also draws frequent praise, with diners highlighting dishes like the farm chicken with onion rings, lamb main, beef carpaccio, roasted duck breast and confit, and a rotating selection of pastas. The dessert offerings earn strong mentions too, especially the apple pie with balsamic vinegar and Parmesan, the chocolate cake with woodside-flavored ice cream, and the chocolate chip cookie with milk. The cocktail program is another highlight, with the dirty martini, often noted for its homemade blue cheese olives or pickle brine, described as one of the best reviewers have had. Service is repeatedly called attentive and warm, with staff going out of their way to mark occasions, from complimentary anniversary mini-cakes to surprise off-menu bites. A few reviewers note minor letdowns, including a slightly salty mushrooms pasta and one visit where the food did not match the high standard of the atmosphere and service. Several diners say the seasonal rotation gives them a reason to return, and regulars describe celebrating milestones there for decades.

(Review from Dec. 2025): First time at Gramercy Tavern, we had lunch on the tavern side. We both really enjoyed everything we ate, they are serving some really solid American food. The flatbread and dips and the burger stood out above the rest. I think the burger is an all timer in the city. The milk and cookie dessert was fun but it didn’t blow us away. Gramercy also has a great cocktail program, so definitely keep that in mind. I had one of the best dirty martinis ever, it came with homemade blue cheese olives that were out of this world. As to be expected of this restaurant group, the service we experienced Michelin quality, attentive but warm and easy. They brought us a complimentary mini-cake to celebrate our anniversary, it was delicious. One great thing about Gramercy is how seasonal it is. It makes you want to return to see the new menu items and motifs. Overall, highly recommend Gramercy Tavern and can’t wait to return!

We had such a wonderful dinner at Gramercy Tavern. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive — they even told us about the champagne with pineapple and shared the history behind the pineapple as a symbol of hospitality, which was so interesting. The food was absolutely delicious, and the interior is beautiful, with thoughtful and unique details. We were also pleasantly surprised by the number of compliments from the restaurant — it made the whole experience feel extra special and warm. We truly loved everything about our evening and can’t wait to come back again ✨
