About The Smith

The Smith is an American restaurant in New York, serving a broad menu of approachable dishes from a multi-floor setting at 1150 Broadway. Much of its identity comes from a high-energy format built around shared tables, a central bar, and a menu that spans brunch through dinner. The Smith Burger anchors the mains, while the Thursday Special - Seared Tuna appears as a recurring featured dish, and The Smith Eggs Benedict leads the brunch side. Reservations are advised for peak periods, and walk-in seating is available at the bar, where the full menu is served. The restaurant operates across several floors, giving groups and solo diners distinct areas to settle in without slowing table turnover.

Customer Review Summary

The Smith draws reviewers back most consistently for brunch, with the baked eggs alla vodka singled out as a standout dish across multiple visits, alongside the breakfast sandwich and potatoes that diners call the best part of the meal. The bar program earns praise too, especially the signature bloody Mary described as refreshing and unusual, and the sticky toffee pudding gets rave notices as a perfect dessert. Service is frequently described as kind, attentive, and quick, and the spacious interior with a grand bar gives the place a lively yet relaxed feel. A few recurring complaints stand out: one reviewer found a dirty appetizer plate with leftovers and a cocktail fork in a mussel dish, another had a table not ready despite a reservation, and a grilled chicken sandwich arrived with so much sauce the bread turned soggy and fell apart. Several suggest making reservations, especially for Saturday brunch, since it is a popular time and waits are common.

Stopped in here for a few appetizers and drinks after a travel day. Seated quickly -- waitress was kind and attentive. Food and drinks came out quickly and everything was great. We had the mussels and fries and they were great! Would definitely come back. Good sized wine menu too!

Great experience. Perfect meal, just as ordered, and wasn’t even on the normal breakfast weekday menu but they insisted to make it anyways. Very unique and cool atmosphere. Great staff and management.

We had an extra night in NYC due to blizzard and after visiting The Smith we were definitely not sad of the extra time we spent there. Kind staff, cosy atmosphere and great food. I recommend their Monday special “Peppercorn burger”.

We first came in for brunch and the food was fine. The goat cheese omelet was solid, but I liked the greens and vinaigrette on the side more than the omelet. The breakfast sandwich was really good, and the potatoes that came with it were the best part of the brunch. The potato waffle was bland, but they have salt and pepper on the table. Flash to a couple nights later after a terrible experience at a late-1800's "themed" bar down the street, and The Smith saved our evening. They were able to sit us quickly after we left the prior establishment (given we didn't have a reservation), and their bar was large enough that sitting there while waiting was easy. Dinner: Truffle Arancini Appetizer - solid choice, but I'd have liked more of the white sauce. Half Chicken - the sauce was punchy and was perfect for the chicken and the veggies were cooked perfectly. It wasn't a true half-chicken, but I honestly think it was better because of that. Instead, it was a large breast and a leg; I think this choice kept it from being dried out the way half chickens can be. French Dip - the au jus was thick and savory, and the bread was amazing. Everything on the sandwich melded together in a great way. Sticky Toffe Pudding - I've never had such a perfect dessert from a restaurant. It was amazing in every way. On top of it all, service was great; our waitress, Chloe, was a doll. This was a great experience for us.

I have mixed feelings about The Smith, but three stars feels fair — maybe even a touch generous. We booked a table for eight for a family brunch to celebrate my wife’s 40th, so expectations were (understandably) high. …
