Quick info
About YELLOW Georgetown
On Wisconsin Ave NW in Georgetown, YELLOW is a cafe from Chef Michael Rafidi built around baked goods, mezze, and wood-fired pita sandwiches. The kitchen turns out falafel, cauliflower, and lamb pitas alongside a smoked chicken sandwich, while shakshuka arrives with fresh pita and bagels come with a labne dip. Pastries lean on French technique with Middle Eastern flavors, including zaatar and orange or rose croissants. A soft serve finished with pomegranate syrup and molasses rounds out the dessert case. Coffee is curated by Coffee Director Ayat Elhag and sourced from Counter Culture. The space is a walk-in counter, open daily, with an open kitchen visible from both the indoor seating, including a lounge-style area, and the outdoor tables. The cafe traces back to an original location opened in May 2020 inside Rafidi's Levantine restaurant Albi.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most consistently single out the pita sandwiches, especially the lamb pita and smoked chicken sandwich, alongside a falafel pita praised by a vegetarian diner. Close behind, the pastries draw repeat mentions, from flaky croissants and zaatar and orange rose croissants to bagels with labne dip, and the shakshuka with fresh pita and red shatta hummus also come up often. Coffee and specialty drinks, including a coconut cardamom cold foam and Moroccan green tea, get regular praise, and several describe the space and open kitchen as comfortable for lingering. A few note it gets packed, with seating hard to find and lines worth the wait according to some. One reviewer's three star visit stands out for citing rude behavior from a staff member at the pickup counter and higher prices for Georgetown, while another calls the lack of WiFi a drawback despite otherwise spotless conditions. Multiple reviewers say they would return to try more menu items.

“Really good food, sandwiches were fresh and super flavorful. Reason for the 3 stars is that SOME of the staff was rude that kind of took away from the experience (the big fella shouting names at the pick up counter should have better manners) And also the prices are a little high, even for georgetown. I’d go here again though but not as often as i would have if the big fella was a little more polite and the prices were lower.”

“What a find! My family and I wanted a spot with good food in DC and boy did we hit the jackpot. The cuisine is top notch. We were lucky to arrive early because it got packed. Don’t miss the inventive and delicious desserts. And, the design and ambiance are wonderful, too.”

“Wonderful place across the board. Had a fantastic experience here. The atmosphere is wonderful. You can come here to study or for a coffee date and feel comfortable. I got a specialty latte and a pastry and both were delightful. Would come back here if I find myself in the area again”

“Definitely worth the wait in line! The coconut cardamom cold foam was delicious. There were so many pastries to choose from. I LOVED the bagels with the labne dip.”

“Truly grateful to see places like this exist now, happy kids now will be able to grow up seeing their culture around, and others celebrate it as well. Very affordable for the quality- the menu was very thoughtful and dialed. Solid coffee and pasties but the shakshuka with fresh pita is not to be missed. Wish I lived in the area”
