About The Kettle Black Kitchen & Pub

The Kettle Black Kitchen & Pub is a gastropub in Phoenix, at 1 N 1st St #108, serving tavern-style plates and pints within a traditional setting of wood, tile, and low lights. Much of its character comes from the pairing of a drinks program with hearty gastropub food suited to a pub and bar-and-grill format. Customer Review Summary

Diners consistently single out the fish and chips as the standout dish, repeatedly calling it huge, tasty, and among the best they have had. Close behind, the Philly cheesesteak fries earn frequent praise for their generous toppings and perfect ratio of beef, cheese, onion, and peppers, with one reviewer noting they held up well even as leftovers. The Bavarian pretzel served with stone ground mustard and cheese dip, along with the crab cakes and craft burgers, also draw positive mentions. Most describe the atmosphere as cozy and welcoming, and several highlight the friendly, fast service. A few reviewers, however, report slow service during quieter weekday lunches, and one diner found the fish and chips could have had a more solid crisp.

I don't usually leave reviews but maybe I should start because this was amazing. I had $17 philly cheesesteak fries and a $9 glass of wine. We went late so even though the bar was still open, the kitchen closing soon and they STILL made the fries look so presentable with a perfect ratio of beef, cheese, onion, peppers and fries. I didn't feel like there was too much or too little of anything. And they didn't skimp out on the cheese it was COVERED which I loved. Even as leftovers the next day, they still tasted just as good which is insane. The wine was also great and paired well with it and the server was such a sweet woman who even told me and friend to make sure we get home safe after we were leaving since it was late at night. :) I can't wait to try more things from here again. On top of that, it's so cozy and beautiful inside.

Loved the vibes here ! Very old school dive vibes, but nice and clean and cozy. We got the crab cakes, porkbelly sliders & Philly cheese steak fries. Everything was good, the fries could have had a more solid crisp & the crab cakes could have used some sort of dipping sauce. All & all the dishes were good and I would come back. Also, got the Benny Blanco & loved it!!
