Quick info
About Stonegate Yard
Stonegate Yard is a bar and grill in York, at 8 10 Little Stonegate, set in a converted Georgian townhouse with a restaurant and a bar. A small alley leads to an ivy-covered inner courtyard, where tables give diners a green spot to eat away from the street. The menu pairs pub classics with curries and BBQ chicken. Steak and ale pie sits alongside half chicken with sides and a beef roast. The French connection burger is made with two local butchers' burgers and topped with onion chutney and cheese. A bar sits beside the seating area near the alley, and a further seating area is located upstairs.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most praise, with one diner calling the beef roast perfectly cooked and another finding it great value. Close behind is the steak and ale pie, described as large and very tasty, with gravy one reviewer called divine. Others mention the French connection burger with onion chutney and cheese, a tuna sandwich with chips, and a half chicken with great sides. Reviewers describe generous portions, pleasant and helpful staff, and a green, bright courtyard that one calls dog-friendly. A family with a baby and a four year old liked the children's menu of a main, ice lolly and drink. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the half chicken portion quite small, another objected to a pop song played at high volume on a Sunday afternoon when they wanted a relaxing lunch, and one warns there is no disabled toilet because the toilets are up a set of stairs. Two separate reviewers enjoyed it enough to return the next night.

“Excellent pie (the gravy was devine), the Sunday roast at the next table also looked scrumptious. Very nice staff, and a cozy, ivy-overgrown inner courtyard perfect for settling in for a drink and some food. But why do you play such crap music, and at such a volume, on a Sunday afternoon? I don't think the group of older women, the guy with the salt-and-pepper handlebar mustache, the family with their young toddler, or us as tourists looking for a cozy relaxing spot for lunch particularly enjoyed nikki minaj' starship song blasted at high volume”

“What an amazing find of a place, so good we went back the next night. Down a little alley and you find a seating area with a bar next to it. The staff were amazing and looked after us both visits, the food was plentiful and delicious, so what more could you ask for. Just something to bear in mind thou, If you are disabled, there is no disabled toilet, as the toilet are up a set of stairs, but never mind. Will return as soon as possible as just brilliant. Well done team.”
