Customer Review Summary

Mussels are what most reviewers come for, and they describe them as plump, juicy and plentiful, with bacon and blue cheese, bacon and brie, and Cajun versions singled out. One reviewer found the sauces full of herbs and finely chopped vegetables, though another felt there were too many to choose from. Close behind, the whitebait gets repeated praise, along with the scallop starter, sea bass, trout in a cream sauce and beef bourguignon. Creme brulé is mentioned several times, with a crisp top and smooth vanilla custard. Staff are called friendly and lovely, and a selection of Belgian beers gets a mention. The caveats are specific: one diner found the squid slightly overcooked and the prawn starter flavourful only on the shell, and another called the mussels pricey. Desserts other than the creme brulé disappointed one reviewer, who described cold pancakes and an overly sweet raspberry tart with mediocre pastry. Several mention generous portions, and one pair shared a starter and cheese board because the mains were so plentiful.

“First visit to Frank's mussel bar last night and as far as mussels go, there can be no complaints. The service was great, both servers we had were lovley and polite. You're spoilt for choice when it comes to mussels. If you're a fan of mussels, its a must visit. As for the negatives. As nice as the mussels are, they're on the pricey side. I expected more from the prawn started. All the flavour was on the shell, once peeled and eaten, I was left underwhelmed. Other than the prawns and some of the pricing, its hard to find many other faults.”
