About Da Bara in the Gardens
Da Bara in the Gardens is a cafe on the Trewithen Estate in Truro, at the entrance to Trewithen Gardens. It can be used without paying for garden entry, and it stays available when the gardens are shut. The counter carries cinnamon buns and a range of cakes, including gluten-free options, while cream teas are served alongside Origin Coffee. Baking also covers bread and pastries, and Da Bara loaves are sold to carry home. The cafe is run as a Da Bara site, and dogs are welcome. A plant shop operates on site.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the draw reviewers raise most, called good and, by one, incredible, with one pleased to find Origin Coffee served. Close behind are the cream teas, which one reviewer calls great value and a large group found delicious, and the cinnamon buns that a local family expects to keep buying. Others mention a sausage roll with salad and coleslaw, soup with a cheese scone, and a cheese and carrot sarny with tasty carrots. Several praise the outside seating, with plenty under cover, and the garden setting, and one notes the café is dog friendly. The criticism is substantial, though. One local found the coffee expensive for such small cups and the food average, with staff who seemed disinterested on a second visit. Another waited for pasties that arrived microwaved and very dry, and thought the scones looked bought in and came with raspberry jam instead of strawberry. One calls the café shabby. That same diner plans to stick to the renowned cinnamon buns on any return visit.

“Wonderful place to eat a light lunch, breakfast or cake & coffee. Gorgeous setting must be even more glorious in warm weather Good outside seating with plenty under cover Food was scrumptious as was the coffee .....you can eat in the cafe without paying to go in the gardens (tho still able to enjoy the view) and cafe open when gardens shut. A young staff who were all friendly & efficient We are looking forward to returning Dog friendly and would appear to be an excellent dog walking area.”

“This place is hidden and the Google map take you around minimum twice :D. Otherwise it is historical garden . The coffee shop it self is shabby. The toilet is clean but need attention in the future”

“The first time we visited it had just opened as Da Bara and the staff seemed switched, keen and friendly but on the second visit that had somehow changed. What made four stars first time out sank back to three on visit two, I'm local so was disappointed by this. Firstly the coffee is very expensive compared to it's local competitors considering it comes in such small cups. The food also seems expensive and, based on what I tasted, pretty average. The staff, who were so keen and lively on our first visit seemed pretty disinterested when taking the order so perhaps they lack leadership? Service was reasonable but didn't suggest any pride or interest in what they were doing. I'm an ex managing director of a multi branch retail company who's final job before I retired was selling shoes in a sports shop for minimum wage but I viewed my job as doing the best I could for my customers - that attitude wasn't in evidence here On the plus side the Da Bara bread available to take away is cheaper than supermarkets but still pricey Will we go back when we fancy a coffee? Not on the evidence of the last visit”

“Absolute gem! Couldn’t believe my luck when I saw that Da Bara had moved here and the added bonus of the beautiful plant shop means I’ll never not stop here.”

“Wonderful food, a bit different. Loved my cheese and carrot sarny. Carrots were so tasty!”
