“Second time coming here and i think it's an absolute gem of a spot. For £18 a head, me and a mate enjoyed 3 bottles of ice cold sagres, a bowl of olives, chouriço no pão and a hench sandwich each (Los Gatos could never at that price!) On measuring expectations: The vibes are canteen and communal (fine dining it is not). Service can be a bit slow. Both times I've been it seems to be only one person in the kitchen so if there are multiple tables/orders on the go, you could be waiting an hour before the olives even arrive (more time to luxuriate in cheap beers and chat though). If you go into it with those expectations in mind, you should still come out of it very satisfied.”

“We booked here due to the number of 5 star reviews talking about great food and friendly service, plus we wanted to try something different. On arrival no one came out to see us. We sat a table clearly reserved for us (8 people) and still no one came over. After a while I had to go and ask for menus; I was given 3 menus for 8 people and told to order at the counter when we were ready. The atmosphere and the ambience was a bit rough and ready, but I wouldn't have minded that if we'd been made to feel welcome and the food was good. However, we weren't made to feel welcome and watching a chap rolling a cigarette behind the counter whilst continuing to ignore us was the final straw, so we left. Consequently, I've no idea if the food was good or not.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come mainly for traditional Portuguese food served by welcoming, friendly owners. The chicken pie with a double espresso, chouriço no pão, and a bowl of olives with ice cold Sagres are the items named. Portions are described as out of this world, and several point to low prices and a nice house red. Regulars describe the feel of a traditional Portuguese café where homesick customers return, and others call it a place for a chat, a nice meal, or a beer before the football. The setting is called canteen and communal, and one reviewer found it rough and ready. Service is the recurring trade-off. One reviewer says a single person seems to run the kitchen, so with several tables ordering the olives can be slow to arrive. Another party found no one came to their reserved table, received too few menus when they asked, and left without eating after being ignored at the counter. Even so, the slow-service reviewer still left satisfied, filling the wait with cheap beers and conversation.
