Quick info
About Bauhinia Restaurant
Bauhinia Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant on Lyme Drive in Stoke On Trent, set within an Asian dining room that also functions as a bar. The menu covers classic Chinese cooking, with a set menu available for groups alongside a mixed starter designed for sharing at the table. Tables are booked in advance, and the room takes walk-ins when space allows. Service is attentive, and the white ceiling lights brighten the dining area throughout service. Drinks from the bar run alongside the meal, and the set menu brings a structured option for larger parties.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply. Most praise the food and welcoming staff, with the mixed starter shared between three people and the set menu singled out for generous portions. One diner suggests softer lighting than the harsh white ceiling lights. Two reviewers describe serious service failures: a booked table treated as a walk-in group, food served piecemeal after nearly two hours, and dishes arriving without plates.

“terrible experience from start to finish. Booked a table today Saturday night. The service was extremely disappointing, especially from an older waitress who was very impatient, unwelcoming, and made us feel uncomfortable throughout the meal, with no warmth or basic customer service does not deserve after the bad service she was giving. Even saw her pocket tips from other customers. The food was only average and not worth the experience, and it was even served without plates, while drinks took far too long and we repeatedly had to get staff attention just to receive basic service. At one point, staff were eating behind the bar, which added to the unprofessional and uncomfortable atmosphere. No one checked on us, we weren’t asked if we wanted dessert, and the lack of attention and care was shocking. For the price and service level, it was completely unacceptable, and we definitely will not be returning or recommending this place.”

“Really excellent meal - staff were friendly, service was efficient and the food was SO delicious. Fantastic portion sizes and really tasty. Set menu was great value and provided more than enough food for our group. Only area I’d improve is the harsh white ceiling lights - softer lighting would make the whole dining room feel much nicer. Highly recommend Bauhinia!”

“It's taken a year to write this review, the experience was so upsetting. A year ago today (3 August 2025) it was our Ruby wedding anniversary. We booked Bauhinia for a large family meal to celebrate, explaining that it was an important event. It was doubly important because my dad was end of life and this turned out to be his last celebratory meal with the family. Despite booking weeks in advance we were sidelined to a walk in group. The food was awful, it took nearly 2 hours to be served...even then we were served piecemeal with others at the table waiting. It was the most awful restaurant experience I've ever had...and at 64 years of age that's a lot of dining out. Two very important occasions utterly ruined. I will never forgive or forget how we were treated.”
