About Noble House

Noble House is a Chinese restaurant at 43 Osborne Rd in Southsea, open evenings only from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. The restaurant is not licensed, so diners bring their own wine or beer to drink with the meal. The kitchen cooks duck, including duck and pancakes, and squid dishes such as garlic pepper salt squid. Chicken satay is on the menu, and a mock chicken satay gives vegetarians a version of the same dish. Beef dishes complete the range for those who want something other than duck or squid.

Customer Review Summary

Beef dishes come up most, from crispy beef noodles to beef in mushroom sauce and beef described as tender. Close behind are duck and pancakes, chicken satay, lemon chicken and steamed sea bass in ginger and spring onion sauce, with one party sharing a Cantonese Feast set menu. Several praise friendly service, a takeaway ready when promised, and a gluten free menu one diner used twice without issues. Two reviewers mention bringing their own wine or beer. The complaints are specific. Takeaway diners report overcooked prawns, dry squid, rice that was dry and starters so overcooked they were hard, while others call the Singapore vermicelli tasteless and the smoked chicken closer to fired than smoked. One vegetarian household describes mock chicken satay arriving mouldy, then real chicken breast arriving in a later order, with only an apology offered. After the earlier mouldy delivery, staff handed over exact change for two refunded satays.

“Great food fabulous service , can’t recommend more highly We had the chicken satay, the duck and lemon chicken utterly delicious The tip is bring your own wine which we didn’t know - but we will be back with a better hythe than from the ship next door. Very clean well run place Highly recommend”

“I'm sorry to give the rating of food just one star while their service is good. It is a modified (a very gentle expression) Chinese cuisine and the cook technique is disappointing. An example it's smoke chicken indeed not a smoked one but fire. And I have never expected a it will use some sour and sweet source as the base for hot spot ...”

“Fantastic service, incredible food, must be the best Chinese food we've had for years. Plenty of choice, at very reasonable price. The BYO option for wine or beer also a massive bonus. Don't know why weve never been before, but it's a definite favorite in Southsea now. Thoroughly recommend this place.”

“Hate leaving bad reviews but the food I received was awful! One of my favourite places for a takeaway and with prices these days we only have one every few months.. Food came like it was previously cooked for someone else.. Beef in mushroom sauce was perfect. Chicken chow mien is as good. Rice was dry. Prawns was completely overcooked. Starter selection couldn’t even be eaten it was so overcooked it was hard. Squid was dry and over cooked. I know they can do great food but today they seem lazy and like they are cutting corners! So disappointing as we don’t treat our selves often.”
