About The Glasshouse Cafe
Live music sets play on the outdoor terrace at The Glasshouse Cafe, a family-run café at The Kiosk in Southend On Sea, where the decking out front faces Warrior Square garden and gives outdoor dining a soundtrack unusual for a daytime spot. Breakfast anchors the kitchen, with a full English that can come with fried bread in place of toast, alongside cooked plates such as jacket potatoes with tuna and cheese and sausage and bacon sub rolls. Coffee runs through the day, lattes included, with cans and other drinks. The entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. Reservations are recommended. The café trades Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays. Out on the terrace, the team brings menus over and takes orders at the table.

Customer Review Summary
The full English breakfast anchors most of the praise here, with one regular calling it the best in town and another, working in the area for a few days, saying it had been years since they'd had cooked breakfasts like it. Close behind is the outdoor terrace facing the park, where several describe live music or a speaker set low enough to talk over. Other named orders include an omelette with homemade chips, jacket potatoes with tuna and cheese, a sausage and bacon sub roll, and a swap of toast for fried bread that the kitchen accommodated. The counterweight is service. One group left before ordering after being told bluntly there were no tissues for a spilled drink and hearing a pointed remark about a bench elsewhere. Another was served a cup wiped with a cleaning cloth and got no apology when asking for a replacement, and also notes smokers on the outdoor seating with no separation. A takeaway chicken salad sandwich drew a complaint of barely any mayo.

“Nice location, perfect staff and service! Live music sets the mood when having drinks and food on the outside terrace in the sun.”

“I don’t know anything about the food or drink but me and a few friends went to sit on the seats outside, a man comes over passive aggressively and bring menus over. One of my friends has McDonald and gets told to put it away, he did so and apologised for having it out. My other friend then spills her bottled water down her legs and asks if they had any tissues she could have the “waiter” replies “no.” bluntly, we decided to leave after this because of how unwelcome we felt and the “there’s a big bench over there for you” (suggesting me leave) comment. If you’re going to work at a cafe please learn some customer service skills, we were all happy to buy something and we’re okay to leave if he asked politely but I found no need for the rude service.”

“Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning during a stay in Southend. The staff were really friendly, the service was quick and the food was delicious. I had an English breakfast and they allowed me to swap the toast for fried bread (a personal guilty pleasure).”
