About Fins Beach Cafe

Fins Beach Cafe is a beachside cafe in Sandown with sea views, open daily during the daytime. The kitchen serves brunch followed by lunch, with Truffle Shrooms on Toast and a Full English on the breakfast side, and burgers and salads for later. Smoothies, including the Glow Up, sit alongside coffee from a barista machine using an island-roasted blend. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are on the menu, and the venue is licensed. The cafe does not take bookings, so seating is walk-in. There is usually a wait, and the servers tell you the expected time. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the smoothies and drinks, with the glow up smoothie called the nicest one a reviewer had ever had, and Biscoff and pistachio lattes and the coffees also praised. Close behind are the dishes: truffle shrooms on toast, the Full English, loaded hash browns, Eggs Royale, a Mexican chicken bowl, a veggie burrito and tiramisu french toast. Vegetarian and gluten free diners find plenty of options, and the beachside setting and sea views come up repeatedly. Busyness is the recurring trade-off. Several note long waits because the cafe is so popular, though servers give expected wait times, and one diner called it worth the wait. Another reviewer in a group of six waited an hour for food, saw a later table served hot dishes first, and left, feeling the menu was ambitious for the kitchen size. One reviewer also mentions the toilets are a walk along the beach. Staff are described as friendly, and one reviewer waived the drinks bill after that wait. Another recalls a staff member opening a car boot so a daughter could be changed in privacy.

“Really lovely cafe. Food was excellent, smoothies were even better. I got the glow up smoothie and it was the nicest one I’ve ever had, my daughter declared we were sharing it! I’m vegetarian and gluten free which is sometimes a tricky mix but there were plenty of options, all sounding delicious! Perfect sea views and the staff were so lovely, really went above and beyond. There’s no baby changing in the seafront loos so a member of staff really kindly opened the boot of her car so my daughter could have a change in privacy. Just a great lunch and great experience overall.”

“Very busy when we visited, simply because this is such a popular café. Food and service were both brilliant, the location is lovely except for the lack of toilets (these are about 5-10 minutes away along the beach). There are some good vegetarian options; my veggie burrito was very tasty.”

“Fins Beach Café is an absolute gem and fully deserves its Gold Award for Best Café—after visiting, it’s easy to see why. The location is fantastic, with a relaxed beachside atmosphere that’s perfect whether you’re stopping for breakfast, lunch, or just a coffee. The food was outstanding, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and beautifully presented. Every dish was packed with flavour, and the service was just as impressive. The whole café has a brilliant vibe, making it the kind of place where you happily lose track of time while enjoying the views and great food. Everything we ordered was very well made. If you’re visiting the Isle of Wight, Fins Beach Café is an absolute must-visit.”

“Lovely location but I think their menu may be abit ambitious for the size of kitchen and how popular it is. We came down as a group of 6 and waited short time for a table but after ordering we waited for an hour then told our ticket was being made but 5 mins later a table which arrived and ordered after us got their hot food first, this obviously upset the members of our party and the server didn't offer much of an apology rather just excuses. We had to leave at that point as parking running out and dogs getting hot. I went to pay for drinks and the lady behind the counter kindly said we did not need to pay for them and offered apologies. The food we saw for other looked lovely but unfortunately did not get to try any and the café would have missed out on a bill for over £100. It's not the first time I've come across a similar issue at these ambitious menus in small cafés and more accurate wait times could help us better chose whether to stop.”
