About The Salisbury Orangery
The Salisbury Orangery is a licensed riverside coffee shop on Crane St in the centre of Salisbury, set in a traditional timber-framed building beside the Avon with a view of the bridge. Full table service means orders come to you, whether you sit indoors or by the water. The kitchen pairs locally roasted coffee and cakes with fresh hot food, including hot smoked trout mousse on toast and poached eggs on sourdough toast. Vegans can order the vegan Orangery cooked breakfast. The drinks list adds smoothies and a lemonade to the coffee and tea. It opens daily, and Sunday mornings are busy, with a wait for a table and for food. The Orangery is an independent business.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the hot smoked trout, served as a mousse on toast, describing it as delicious with great flavours and textures, though one wished for more colour on the plate. Poached eggs on sourdough come close behind, with one reviewer calling them perfect. Others praise the smoothie, a nonalcoholic blueberry spritzer, the salmon pretzel bun, the vegan cooked breakfast and the coffee. The river setting and friendly, welcoming staff come up repeatedly. A few mention long waits for a table or for food, though one says staff were apologetic. One reviewer found the inside extremely cold, and on a return visit got cold eggs and one slice of toast where a partner received four. One reports toilets in disappointing condition, while another found them neat and clean. Another notes that outdoor servers must check with management indoors before seating guests at visibly empty tables.

“The venue boasts an exceptional setting that immediately stands out. The natural surroundings are particularly appealing, with a picturesque water stream flowing nearby that adds to the overall ambiance. The establishment offers versatile seating options to accommodate different preferences and weather conditions. On pleasant days, guests can enjoy the outdoor seating area, which we were fortunate enough to experience firsthand during our visit. For those preferring covered accommodation or cooler weather, the indoor seating arrangements are comfortable and well-appointed. The staff deserves recognition for their genuine helpfulness and attentiveness, particularly those members working in the outdoor section. However, there is room for improvement in terms of their operational authority. Currently, when tables are visibly empty, the outdoor servers asks you still to need to consult with management indoors regarding seating arrangements rather than being empowered to seat customers independently. This minor inefficiency could be streamlined by granting them greater decision-making autonomy. Regarding the culinary experience, the food offerings were satisfactory and of good quality. The smoothie selection was particularly impressive and noteworthy, standing out as a highlight of the menu. The main area requiring attention is the restroom facilities. Unfortunately, the toilets were in a disappointing condition and require cleaning improvements to meet acceptable hygiene standards.”

“First time here 3 months ago. Beautiful building and very pleasant inside. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Food delicious. I had the hot smoked trout. The only downside was that it was extremely cold inside. Even the staff were wearing large jumpers and my mate had to put his coat back on after taking it off when he arrived. Having said that, I will go back. So I came back 3 months later and got a mixed bag. On arrival and although several tables were ready, the young lady who greeted us looked like we'd "put her out" and said she would have to clear a table for us if we didn't mind waiting. After only a couple of minutes, the same young lady came back and offered us a table that was already ready to sit at!?!? Okay. My partner ordered the poached eggs on sourdough toast whilst I ordered the "Italian spicy" on sourdough toast. We both had tea. My partner enjoyed 4 slices of sourdough toast whilst I only got one? Not entirely in line with the costs in my opinion. Plus, my eggs, although very well done, were cold! During the whole time we were there, ALL of the other tables had bottled water on them. Not at any point were we offered bottled water. It's a shame because my partner had come here today for the first time and on my recommendation from my first time 3 months ago. I'm not sure if I will go back again?”
