About Toby Carvery Waterside
Toby Carvery Waterside is a carvery restaurant in Saint Helens, on E Lancashire Rd, where the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet includes a breakfast carvery served with breakfast gravy. For the main carvery, staff at the servery station carve the meat, with turkey, gammon, roast ham and beef among the choices, and guests help themselves to vegetables. Roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings are among the sides. Staff seat guests at a table and explain the set menu options at the start. Sections of the restaurant can be booked for group celebrations such as birthday parties. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers return for the freshly cooked carvery plate, with the roasties and Yorkshire puddings singled out as lovely, and the breakfast carvery is praised for its great selection and fresh food. Friendly, welcoming staff come close behind, and the chefs at the servery are described as nice and polite even when the restaurant was busy. Not every visit matches that. A few reviewers found the beef like chewing rubber and almost tasteless, the vegetables tired and depleted, and the roast potatoes the worse for wear. On that visit there was no lamb, the servery went unattended for a while, and the extra pigs on blankets never reached the table. Another describes a Sunday with a long line and servers handing over a glob of fat as a cut of beef. One breakfast diner found the gravy watery. Even on the weaker visit, the turkey, gammon and roast ham were called good. One group celebrating a surprise birthday found their section laid out, with staff finding candles and keeping the cake safe.

“It's okay. As far as carveries go, it's poor. I'm sure if you came in on a weekday, your experience would be a more pleasant one. However, on a Sunday, it feels like there is no structure whatsoever. First of all, you wait round about 40 minutes standing in line for the food which is extremely poor. Secondly, when you get the meat section, servers don't properly quality assure what they are giving you. They don't care! You may very well get a glob of fat disguised as a 'cut of beef'. I've given this 3 stars as the rest of the food is actually okay, not stunning, okay. Put it this way, you would save more time, more money and save your sanity making a roast dinner yourself.”

“We had a lovely experience at Toby Carvery! The food was delicious, everything was fresh, and there was a great selection to choose from. The service was fantastic, and a special mention to Gina and Kim, who were both lovely, friendly and welcoming. They really helped make our visit enjoyable and went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after. Thank you both for making our experience so positive. We’ll definitely be back! 😊”

“Just had a lovely carvery here. I have to say it was a very pleasant visit…. We go here quite a lot & we knew it would be busy with the £7 offer on. We queued out the door, only for 3 or 4 minutes, the young lad took us to our table, spoke very politely in a nice calm manner… we queued a few minutes to be served and the 3 chefs that were serving were all nice & polite and were working flat out, & so were the guys in the back, refreshing all the dishes… the waitress came over & asked if everything was ok with our meals, which our reply was, “delicious”… When we had finished and was paying everyone was chatting to us,, I commented on how nice our experience had been and said that they all “worked well” together & we’re a “Great Team” so, keep up the good, hard work & WELL DONE TEAM GINA RHIANNON MEG ALFIE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mrs Swift 🙌”

“Four of us arrived at the Carvery without a reservation. However, after waiting for several minutes we were given a table. We ordered drinks, which arrived quite quickly. We then informed the waitress we were all having a carvery and we ordered two additional pigs on blankets extras. We then approached the servery to get our meals. There was no sign of any staff at the servery for several minutes. So one of us went to the bar and made the staff aware of this. After a short wait a young lady attended and served us with the meats we requested. There was no lamb available. When we then went along the servery to self-serve our vegetables we saw that many of the dishes were quite depleted and the veg looked very tired. The roast potatoes were the worse for wear, so we had very few. However, we were very hungry and tackled our meals regardless. The Turkey, gammon and roast ham were good, but the beef was like chewing rubber and almost tasteless. None of us cleared our plates, we actually left a lot of food on our plates as most of the vegetables was sub standard. The additional side orders did not reach our table by the time we finished eating either. Although we arrived there at 5pm on a Saturday the restaurant had many empty tables, and it was definitely not too busy. Therefore we couldn't understand why the standard of the food was so poor. The staff who served us were polite, professional and friendly. However, the poor quality of the food was totally unacceptable and we all agreed it was nowhere near the standard we have found at other Toby Carverys. Therefore we do not recommend this restaurant until they improve their current standards.”
