About Deccan House
Deccan House is a South Indian restaurant on London Road in Reading, focused on Andhra and Telugu-style cooking. The menu features regional dishes such as Punugulu, Mysor bondam and Nellore ghee karam dosa, alongside onion dosa and biryani made with chicken, lamb or paneer. A breakfast and buffet service runs in the morning, and staff are familiar enough with the kitchen to point out vegan and plant-based options and walk guests through what suits them. The restaurant is set up as a walk-in and dine-in space, and takeaway is not normally part of the service. Open daily, it sits on a busy stretch of London Road and draws a mix of regulars and first-time visitors who come for the Andhra flavours.

Customer Review Summary
Biryani is the dish reviewers raise most often, with several singling out the chicken and lamb versions for standout meat quality and generous portions. Close behind, Andhra-style flavours run through the menu, and multiple diners point to punugulu, Mysor bondam, and the dosas as dishes that drew them back, including a revisiter who found the onion dosa with sumptuous onions far better than an earlier, slightly bitter Nellore ghee karam dosa. Reviewers describe a warm, attentive team that walks guests through the menu, accommodates vegan diners by checking each dish, and on one occasion allowed a takeout order and gave the food for free. The South Indian buffet also draws repeat praise as the best in Reading, and several reviewers note the Andhra character as what sets it apart. One recurring packaging note appears across orders, with a reviewer flagging styrofoam containers that melted with hot food and suggesting paper or bagasse alternatives.

“I have tried all South Indian buffets in Reading. Can confirm this is the best one hands down. It’s a lil different, the andhra flavours are very noticeable in everything. Amazing breakfast spot.”

“We came across this gem in Reading, and it was such a refreshing change from the stereotypical Indian restaurants we’re used to in France. They serve incredibly specific local dishes with a range of diverse flavors !😊✨ The staff was so warm and attentive, taking the time to walk us through the menu and happily answering all my parents’ questions. As a vegan, I was really touched by how careful they were cuz they proactively checked every dish to let me know exactly what was plant-based. It felt like they genuinely cared about our experience. The food was incredible, but the kindness of the team made it special. We’re definitely coming back!”

“The first order- sides were good. Dosa was a bit almost reaching burnt bitter taste. After researching online recipes and videos expected red chutney in the Nellore ghee karam dosa which was not present inside the dosa-did not understand if it was potato or what was the masala spread in.Could not feel the fragrance of ghee which normally oozes out in other takeouts or restaurants. Both the chutneys were different and flavourful.Sambar was good. Dosa could have been better. Missed the red chutney 😇 Ordered again- onion dosa was very nice and with sumptuous onions, punugulu was very nice and the sides were good too. Using styrofoam boxes was bit of a let down. The box base has almost melted - styrofoam are carcinogenic too which is the only disappointment. White bagasse cardboard box or even paper bags / foil bags would have been better for packing very hot foods.”
