About The Wee Choo Choo Thai Restaurant
Inside a restored Norwegian railway carriage, The Wee Choo Choo Thai Restaurant serves Thai food in Pitlochry, on Platform 3 Rie-Achan Rd. The carriage is styled as a First Class train dining car, with menus and decor to match, so a meal here doubles as a trip aboard a vintage train. A mother and daughter run the restaurant. The mother is the main chef and cooks traditional Thai dishes, while the daughter looks after the dining room. The menu includes a duck massaman curry made with duck leg and a salmon curry named after the restaurant. Mango sticky rice is on the dessert list, and the drinks list covers Thai tea, cocktails and espresso martinis. Dishes are made fresh to order. The restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays and Tuesdays. It also shuts each year from 4 January to 4 February.

Customer Review Summary
Duck massaman curry is the dish reviewers name most, and several call the Thai cooking the best they have had, with one comparing it to food eaten in Thailand. Close behind are the green curry, the salmon curry named after the restaurant, a slow cooked pork rib massaman, and a highland beef sirloin panang. Reviewers also praise the mango sticky rice, the cocktails, an espresso martini and thai tea. Diners enjoy eating in the converted railway carriage, which they call unique and fun, and describe warm, friendly service from the family who run it. The complaints are about portions, price and pacing. Two reviewers say the starter of one spring roll and one satay stick is too small to share, and two call some items, including desserts and thai tea, overpriced. One notes a wait for food, and two say the kitchen closed earlier than expected, one without being told. One reviewer suggests booking ahead. For one birthday table, staff brought a balloon and offered a lift home in the rain.

“A rather unique dining experience in a train carriage. Very comfortable, lovely decor, really lovely service from everyone. This was the best Thai food we have had in years! We did used to live in Australasia so ate authentic Asian food often, and this was comparable to that. We had a duck masaman curry, a green curry and a highland beef sirloin Pa-nang curry. All dishes were extremely flavoursome and the meats were so succulent. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. It is a little higher in price than most, particularly desserts but we felt the quality was high.”

“Wowza! We were lucky enough to find this hidden treasure in Pitlochry! Seriously the best Thai food we’ve ever had. Prepared to order with care and delivered with a smile. Family owned, you are greeted by the friendly owner. His wife is in the kitchen, preparing extraordinary food, and his daughter is front of house. Also, it is fun and fantastic to be eating in this famous railway car! The interiors have been reimagined as a First Class Train Dining experience from the menus to the interior decor. Apparently it’s an old Norwegian RAIL car that was redesigned as a French railway car for the movie Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning. Great attention to detail every step of the way! If we lived here, we would eat here often. Bravo to them! Definitely visionary. They have knocked it out of the park!”

“Seriously how is this only a 4.7 ⭐ The food was breathtaking. Every bite we savoured. We want to return to try the rest of the menu. Good: We ordered thai tea, cocktails, satay & spring roll, duck massaman and the salmon. Beautiful and all cooked to perfection. I personally think the price is fair for the quality and the freshness of the ingredients. The fact the restuarant is on a train (even a mission impossible one) just made the experience that little more unique. The service was also so kind and genuine, i got a balloon for my birthday and they kindly offered us a lift home as it was raining. Bad: ordered the satay and spring roll, we were 'sharing' but you only get 1 of each. I think 2 would be more reasonable. We were not informed the kitchen was closing so didnt have time to order another dish/dessert - we wanted to because it tasted so good 😂 . This is not a negative by any means...I truly think this restuarant will be up there with the best in a few years ❤️ thank you again ❤️”

“Service was excellent, they were busy but the staff were polite and attentive. The owner came to speak to me a few times which added to the friendly welcoming atmosphere. Food was delicious,it wasn’t rushed out the kitchen which shows it’s made fresh to order. I’ve been once before and will definitely visit again.”
