About Full House Takeaway

Full House Takeaway is a Chinese takeaway at 2 Parade Street in Penzance, where orders are placed by phone and collected at the door. The menu includes special fried rice, Singapore noodles and a Chinese-style chicken curry, with a chicken and mushroom curry alongside it. Payment is cash only, and a cash machine sits across the road for anyone who needs one. Sauces such as soy and Sriracha are sold by the tub rather than given free with an order.

Customer Review Summary

Chicken curry is the dish reviewers raise most, with a decade-long regular calling it the best around and a holiday visitor enjoying the chicken and mushroom version, though one diner found it thick and tasteless. Close behind are Singapore noodles, one order made spicy exactly to a husband's liking, and special fried rice with extra pineapple. Others praise crispy shredded beef, bbq ribs and a bang bang chicken salad. Several call it good value. The complaints are specific: a bland chicken chow mein, gloopy sweet and sour chicken, a long wait while later arrivals were served first, and a refusal to give soy or Sriracha sauce without paying for a tub. Two note it is cash only. One phone order arrived with prawns instead of chicken, and the prawn dish was refunded.

“Have used this Chinese for over a decade and they’ve never disappointed me yet. They still do the best (Chinese) chicken curry around. Cash only is a bit of a nightmare sometimes as I don’t always have my bank card on me (use Apple Pay mostly) but there’s a cash machine across the road and I always keep spare cash for when I visit here.”

“Disappointing food. Not worth money. Worst Chinese food i’ve ever had. I have never threw food but this time this shop made me do it. Not recommended at all.”

“Ordered by phone and collected…the chicken dish I ordered had been misheard by staff and when I collected was prawns instead, called the place and they offered to rectify but was on a meal break and had no time to collect and then eat a replacement. The side dish of chilli chips had a hair in it so I also returned this - the staff at the takeaway picked the hair out and then stated they didn’t think it was theirs - it was far too short to be mine…refund was given for the prawns but not the chips which I also left there with the incorrect dish…£4.80 for an inedible item and starving for the rest of my shift!😡😡😡😡”

“Had Chinese chicken which had skin on and was not chicken breast. The Sweet and sour chicken hong Kong style was gloopy and lacked any character or flavour….No free prawn crackers as often given and cash only so had to go to cash point. Very disappointing all round. 😩”

“I ordered a tray of special fried rice - which was not in itself bad tasting - but a lot blander than it would otherwise have been because, when I asked for a squirt of soy or Sriracha sauce, they refused unless I paid an extra £2.70. I don't say that I'm a frequent visitor to kebab shops / takeaways but nevertheless I've been to a few and I've NEVER been charged just for a squirt of soy or Sriracha sauce. OK, so some, in fact most, fish and chip shops will charge for a sachet of tartare sauce but even then it’s 25 or 50p – not £2.70. And the menu of Full House itself says they charge for some sauces (no mention of soy or Sriracha) - but £1.30, not £2.70 How unbelievably mean and tight! UPDATE 11/07 FOLLOWING RESPONSE FROM FULL HOUSE: The mention of fish and chip shops was an example of the sorts of prices takeaways charge for sachets of sauces and not intended to say that Full House itself was a fish and chip shop. Re the mention of not stocking Sriracha or soy sauce - that's unique among Chinese takeaways in my experience and also I don't recall that being pointed out to me on the night. So what would I have been given if I had said yes to paying £2.70?! Love the way they admit that their menu online was not created by them and is 10 years out of date. Interesting to note that they confirmed wanting £2.70 when the Nov 24 menu on their Google Maps listing - presumably the current one - states the prices of tubs of sauce are £2.50. Lastly, selling sauces by the tub rather than small sachets, when most of the sauce will probably not get eaten, is just an excuse to overcharge people.”
