Customer Review Summary
The caveats come mostly from the lower ratings. Two reviewers found the deep fried sushi odd and the Volcano Roll disappointing, and others called the tonkatsu ramen and crispy chicken ramen average or not flavourful. One said takoyaki octopus was chewy, and another said meat meant to be medium rare arrived quite rare. Several felt the food did not justify the price, and one noted starters arriving with the mains. Tightly packed seats were also mentioned.

“Been here multiple times. Staff always polite and engaging. Food is always excellent. Today we had ramen, one pork one chicken. Sashimi sharing platter. Volcano roll. Pickles. And creme brulee. The only minor faults were the noodles were a little over cooked and the creme brulee had split in places but these are not big issues just tweaking in timing and temp control. The volcano roll has improved every time we have visited. This time was perfection. Sashimi was superb. Very fresh and treated with upmost respect and presented beautifully and was the standout dish of the meal. Pickles lovely selection. And nicely balanced a must if ordering sashimi. Staff were very attentive. The experience as before was excellent. Would and have recommend.”

“The service we received here was absolutely phenomenal, I really wish we lived anywhere near Oxford as it would be our new go-to for a date night or special occasion. We can't thank the staff enough for being so attentive towards our intolerances, and their knowledge on their menu was incredible. The service was really fast, I had the Chicken Teriyaki and my partner had the Katsu Chicken as mains and they were both delicious, would highly reccomend. The Sushi came out in record time, but you could tell it was freshly made. The Salmon was so fresh and soft and my partner couldn't stop talking about how good the Volcano Roll was as he was eating it! The option to dine inside or outside was great, we chose outside and the seating area was lovely. Would highly reccomend the Kibou No3 signature cocktail if you like sweet drinks, my partner had their draft lager (the name escapes me!) and said that was also really nice. Unfortunately no photos of the food as my phone ran out of charge, but believe me it looked and tasted great. 5 stars, will absolutely visit again if our travels bring us back to Oxford.”

“Colorful, fresh, and creative— an amazing combo! Great meal with good fish cuts, nice drinks, and an amazing variety at a great price. Crème Brûle was exceptional and unique with excellent tea flavor! Came for a solo meal and was treated very well by all the staff, especially Deepa!”

“Excellent food, great atmosphere and friendly service. The ramen, karaage chicken, gyoza and prawns were all delicious and beautifully presented. The cocktails were also fantastic. One of the best Japanese restaurants in Oxford – we'll definitely be back! 🍜🥟🍤🍹”

“Lovely Japanese restaurant with a beautiful, cozy atmosphere and plenty of seating. The waitress was friendly and helpful, and the food arrived very quickly. The takoyaki dumplings were tasty, but the octopus inside was quite chewy, which wasn’t very enjoyable. I also had the crispy chicken ramen, which was okay, but not as flavourful as I expected from a ramen dish. The chicken kareege was really good on the other hand. The only downside was that the starters were served at the same time as the mains, which made the meal feel a bit rushed. I also didn’t feel the overall food quality quite justified the price, so it wasn’t the best value for money in my opinion. The Hitachino Japanese IPA beer was very good. Was around £34 per person. For a starter, main and a drink. Overall, a pleasant experience with great service and a lovely setting, but the food didn’t quite live up to expectations.”
