About Gusto Italian - Oxford
Gusto Italian - Oxford is an Italian restaurant on High St, housed in the historic Mitre building in the city centre, so a meal here sits right in the middle of town. The kitchen is part of a family of restaurants and cooks contemporary Italian dishes built around pasta, sourdough pizzas and seafood. Starters include truffled mushroom arancini. The Ragu Mafaldine comes with slow-cooked beef ragu, and the pizza list includes a Calabrian pepperoni. The restaurant opens daily, which suits both lunch and dinner plans. Some days bring wine bottle promotions.

Customer Review Summary
Pasta draws the most praise, with the ragu singled out as spectacular, in one case the slow-cooked beef ragu mafaldine, and the carbonara called filling by one diner. Close behind are the starters: truffled mushroom arancini with its sauce, juicy and tender calamari, and fresh burrata. Others name the crab linguine, seafood rice, Calabrian pepperoni pizza and chicken Caesar salad. Service is the other steady theme. Several reviewers call their waiters and waitresses friendly, patient and helpful, including through a language barrier, and describe a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. The complaints are small. One reviewer wanted the carbonara pancetta crispier, and another found the manager who seated them stand offish, though they put it down to a busy service. One reviewer suggests asking about wine bottle promotions. A birthday diner reports that staff brought out a dessert unprompted.

“Great place for really good food. Fresh ingredients like Burrata cheese. Pastas are top level, the Ragu sauce is spectacular. Somedays they have promotions for wine bottles, ask before. Service is friendly and gave you proper recommendations according to what you want.”

“Really incredible staff, really amazing atmosphere. A beautiful place to have a meal. The pizza and flatbread are amazing. Chicken is especially good here. Highly recommend the chicken Caesar salad. I can’t see enough out the light kind of the staff all are, tops”

“Lovely restaurant. Had a good experience here. The food was lovely, especially our starter. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful. Atmosphere was nice (it helps being in the heart of Oxford!). Only downside was the manager/supervisor who sat us. She came across quite stand offish, but that's probably because it was a hella busy! So I don't blame her. Good experience!”
