About The Malt Shovel Hartshill

The Malt Shovel Hartshill is a pub in Nuneaton at 39 Grange Rd, open daily for food and drink. Saturdays bring a bottomless brunch, which gives weekend visitors a full meal built around the drinks. The kitchen serves a mixed grill in different sizes, along with a roast beef dinner and sundaes for dessert. A specials menu runs alongside the main one, and a separate over 60s menu is served at set times, so older guests know when to arrive. Dogs are welcome in the pub, and the separate bar area is open to them too.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the huge portions, with the mega mixed grill and a lamb shank named as highlights, plus a roast beef dinner and ice cream sundaes. Several call the food reasonably priced for the size, and a couple mention a 2 for 10 specials menu. Close behind is friendly service, including bottomless brunch where drinks were offered again before the first was finished, and a server who looked after diners and their dog. Several suggest booking, with one noting a small dining area. Reviewers also say the pub gets very busy and loud inside, and one describes sitting in the bar with dogs and slower service. The sharpest complaints are specific. One diner waited over two hours when a party of 17 was not mentioned, then received boiled chicken on grease and was told to pay for water before the manager stormed off. Another says the over 60 menu was cut off at 2.15 despite a website listing 12 to 4. A wheelchair user's friend reports being refused the disabled-friendly parking spot, which was kept for deliveries.

“Came on Saturday for the bottomless brunch with friends. We all said that we had never been so well attended to at a bottomless brunch. We had been there minutes, if that before they had come to drinks order. We didn't manage to finish one drink before they offered us all another. The 2 girls serving us were absolutely lovely and we all really enjoyed our food. I would thoroughly recommend the Malt Shovel, you won't be disappointed”

“Stood at the bar got ignored while she served women who came in after me (misandristic) my partner took over and got served straight away. Went for the over 60 special menu. She bought it out we ordered then she came back and said they finish that menu at 2.15 the time was actually 2.35!! On their website it said 12-4. All the prices and some of the times had changed from the ones advertised on thier website. I've put the new menus on here. Food was amazing.”

“Visited the pub today for lunch with my friend who’s due to disability uses a wheelchair. No disabled parking and when asking if we could park in a what was disabled friendly spot advised no due a man with a van using the spot to get onto his drive. Asked if we could park elsewhere and again advised no as it’s a spot is used for deliveries. Good food, not at all Disability friendly . May have limited parking spots but need to have some consideration”

“Been here a few times now and always enjoyed the food, the service is always quite slow but it is what it is, tonight however we waited over 2 hours for our food because they failed to tell us they had a party of 17 in, when they did bring the food it was boiled chicken on a bed of grease, potatoes with no butter or salt on, and a salad with zero salad dressing, when we complained and eventually saw the manager she couldn’t of given more of a shit, told us to pay for our first drinks of water and she’d take the meals off, when we said absolutely no way would we be paying for anything she stormed off with an attitude! Shocking customer service and no apology!”
